What To Do During Transit at Dubai Airport?

Flew with Emirates from Manchester to Bangkok via Dubai a few years ago. I had a 3 hour transit in the airport in the middle of the night. Not sure if there's anything 'that' special, but I'd recommend checking out the huge Duty Free area. The terminal itself is impressive inside, architecturally and its decor. Take a trip to the Irish Village if you fancy a pint.

Have a great trip, I wish I was going to Thailand again!

Goto Wild Wadi Water Park... Been there a few times myself. Oh, you only have a few hours, ok, then go build a sand castle. Sand is abundant in that part of the world.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! You mean, you can drink at the airport? Drink, as in ALCOHOL?  Smile

Never been there, but might be going in the next 2-3 months, and I was dreading the trip.

Please tell me you're not kidding!

Regards.

Not only can you drink a pint, but order bacon off their menu if you decide upon breakfast.

I take it your flying Y? Obviously go to the EK lounge if flying First or Business. When I was in Dubai, (in April) i didn't find the duty free to be all that great! Singapore can beat it anyday! Just my opinion. Depending what time of day you'll be at DXB, you should see some interesting aircraft. I was there from midnight till 4.30am, and saw a KLM 777, AF 777, Emirates sky cargo 747s (they all seem to come in at 1am),a Lufthansa A340 and more! Anyway, YES they do serve alcohol at the airport (as far as I know). Alcohol can be served in hotels, restraunts belonging to hotels, and the airport.

enjoy your trip to fabulous Dubai (I'll be back in August!)

Hi Fastenseatbelt,

I agree to FlyingKagaroo, Dubai isn´t that famous their marketing wants to make you think, Singapore is far better.
You need only some minutes for the Duty-Free area, but if you want to to relax, there´s also a normal lounge, with a nice view on the ramp. Sorry, don´t know where it is exactly, AFAIK it´s in the Eastwing.

For your seating: In 772 or 773 I recommend seating in the back, there where the section with just 2 seats outwards start. A little bit louder of course, but there you have a little more space

To get your seat in advance - at least in Germany - you can register somewhere on their website to become a member to their *don´t know what*-program, with that registration you could call their hotline and make a reservation.

Enjoy your flight, the meals (great) and the IFE (especially the camera for outside view)

I flew BHX-DXB-BKK and return about 6 months ago on EK. Fantastic flights. Nose cams - video feed to your seatback TV - great! Friendliest and most multi-national crew I've ever experienced.

Weird thing at DXB is you have to go through security after getting off one plane before entering the terminal proper - and, boy, those scanners are SENSITIVE! Belt buckles, steel toe caps, you name it, you'll have to remove it and send it through the conveyer.

Duty free is ok, not the best in the world, but you can certainly kill an hour in there. They're open all night.

Yes, there's an Irish bar. In fact it was the first commercial outlet I saw once past security.

Look up. The roof is (was? maybe seasonal) quite amazing.

Don't fall asleep and miss your connecting flight like I almost did...
