Strange Boeing 747-236B At Sydney

Thu Jun 03, 2004 8:17 am

Hello all, today on my way to work I drove past Sydney International Airport and noticed an all white 747-236B ex-BA Aircraft, it still had the blue RR engines as well as the all blue underbelly. The registration was TP-ARG....

Can someone please give further information on this please? It was cool to see such a classic 747 at Syd airport.

Thanks Crosswind, even for the registration clarification. I could not stare at it too much as I could of had an accident on Sydney's busy heavy congested roads.

It is here to do with the Olympic flame arriving on Friday morning. It brought some 200 people associated with it. The second aircraft with the flame arrives at 0605 from Athens and Colombo on Friday morning and then they depart at 2230 and 2235 respectively to Melbourne on Friday night. From Melbourne they head to Haneda in Tokyo on Saturday night for the next stage of the Olympic flame relay.

I noted a shot of that a/c this afternoon on A.net, together with the actual torch a/c.

"200 people associated with it (the torch)" - and I'll bet it is all in a biz-class config., as well... wow! where do you sign on, to get onto an Olympic committee of some sort?

As it was in Sydney 2000, and as it has been for many, many years before that, the Olympics are just one big, long, free lunch for a collection of millionaires and their hangers-on, paid for by the taxpayers of all the countries involved. Who needs it?

TF-ARG followed us into Sydney as ADB2. She was G-BDXK with British Airways.

Second aircraft I ever flew on, as G-BDXK, in Feb 84.
It had been in storage for a few years due the recession in early 80's, when finally delivered it was in a unique British Airtours config, just for that summer season I think before reverting to standard BA config and colours, all economy, or nearly all I think, it was a long time ago.
BA Airtours being the then charter arm of BA, operating out of LGW.
Before delivery, while still at LHR, a shake down flight, some stalls, oxygen mask deployment and a touch and go at a then quiet STN.

I was wrong, I did not fly on XK, it was XL, clearly I'm losing it!
Looking at the 'British' livery pic of G-BDXK above made me think, anyway, not the right aircraft but here are a couple of pics of the aircraft I DID fly on, it the livery I mentioned;
