Is this flight operated by Austrian or Lauda? Or whats with the merger thing between the 2 in terms of repainting the 772's or whatever?

The SYD flights will continue to operate via KUL and now 6x weekly!

A connection between Vienna and Singapore, two Star Alliance hubs, has been long overdue. Ever since SQ abandoned the route, last flown thrice weekly with A343 in codeshare with OS, there has been no direct link between the two cities.

Also, this new flights marks the return of 'Lauda' to the route. When the old Lauda Air first introduced the Australia run, they operated the route through Singapore, before swapping to Kuala Lumpur with the opening of the new airport there in 1998.

So does it effectively replace the Lauda Air run via KUL or is this a new route run by Austrian through SIN? Still very unsure on what exactly is going on with the tie-up between those two carriers...

Sydney will be served via Kuala Lumpur 6 times weekly, whereas the Melbourne flights will move to Singapore, served thrice weekly. All flights with Lauda's B772s, using OS flight numbers.

Lauda has become Austrian and all aircraft have been/will be painted in the Austrian scheme.

Flights:

3/wk Vienna-Singapore-Melbourne

6/wk Vienna-Kuala-Lumpur- Sydney

These flights are now all designated Austrian(OS) services.

Hope that clears it up.

Dale.

Aero Ozzie,

Austrian and Lauda Air is one company. Lauda Air still exists but just as brand within the Austrian Airlines Group.

the former 5x VIE-KUL-SYD (ex NG 1, ex OS 3001)
and the former 2 x VIE-KUL-MEL (ex NG 5, ex OS 3005)

are now

6 x VIE-KUL-SYD (OS 001)
3 x VIE-SIN-MEL (OS 007)

currently still operated with B772 in Lauda livery.

Thanks rick and dale, but u've both given contradicting information regarding whether Lauda air still exists as a brand or not  Smile. Anybody wanna clear that up?

Any idea what the loads were like for the formerly KUL-routed MEL-VIE flights?

The Lauda name is owned by Austrian but they have decided to retire the name and are in the process of changing to Austrian only. Already all advertising is in the Austrian name. Going forward all the 772s will also be repainted into Austrian livery. I don't think any have been repainted so far.

Before Sydney and Melbourne were served seperately, Lauda used to operated the flight as a triangle VIE - KUL - SYD - MEL - KUL - VIE. As many times as I have taken the flight, both in the triangle configuration and seperately, the loads have been high. Most pax are flying Europe - Australia, with generally very little local boardings in KUL.

The current information is that Lauda Air continues to exist as a marketing and sales unit for charter operations within Austrian with a fleet of appr. 10 B73S and maybe 1 A320 (?) as well as up to 2 B763 for charter operations only.

The rest of the Lauda fleet (772/763/CRJ) is or will be fully integrated and repainted into Austrian, resp. Austrian Arrows.
The question is for how long, sooner or later i guess they will replace the 772/763 with A34S/A332....

Cheers

Apollo CRS still show the flights as "operated by Lauda Air" although with an OS fligthnumber. Sad to see Lauda go.....Thanks for the info.

Finally! I have been waiting for years for Lauda to disappear!

Was wondering why AUA abandoned the Tyrolean brand but kept Lauda back when they introdused the new corporate ID.

The obvious reason was that Lauda was a very strong brand in Oz and S.E.Asia. So why has AUA decided to reduce Lauda charter only now?

And how are they marketing the switch from Lauda to AUA in Oz?
Above the clouds...it must be beatutiful there
