Lufthansa And Internet Access

Sat Jun 05, 2004 9:45 am

I recently heard on the radio that Lufthansa has started Internet service in all classes MUC-LAX and AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA-LAX and vice versa. Has anybody here experienced this new frill?

I used it over a year ago when Connexion was in testing. Quite cool. I can really say that i can live on a plane with this sort of technology.

I used wireless to connect, speeds were similar to my cable modem at home, with a slight lag when accessing web pages, etc. I think this has to do with the sat. communication lag before my request goes up to the sat and is beemed down to the recieving station.

I'm hoping SQ will surprise us all on 28 June with high speed access from EWR-SIN. The seats on the leadership have RJ-45 Ethernet jacks in the armrests, its just a matter of getting conexxion running up on the roof. I could really use the highspeed on that flight, get a load of work done.

It seems to me that high speed is going to be like computer power was at first. It will become the norm in 5 years (i hope).

It's 10 bucks for 30 minutes (plus 0.25$ for every additional minute) or 30 bucks flat for the whole flight. If you want to use it, it saves hassle to subscribe before the flight imho: http://www.connexionbyboeing.com/

Speed is 5MBits downlink and 1MBit uplink if I remember correctly. That's still around 100 dial-up lines  Big grin

As far as I know only D-ABTE (F R A based 744) and D-AIGB (MUC based 343)are equipped with connexion which wouldn´t be sufficient to cover three daily MUC-LAX and F R A-LAX flights.
Or did I miss that any additional planes have been upgraded?

Not sure, but I think the new A333 have it onboard as well... I remember seeing the box on the roof.

Interesting, FRASYD. I just checked some photos and it really seems like the new A330s also have connexion. However they do not serve LAX so does anyone have infromation about which planes have already been upgraded with the system?

I was going to say. How many a/c do they have fitted with this. Unfortunately this is yet another thing to hinder in the beauty of aviation and everything else it has to offer. I will be flying LAX-F R A next Saturday (the 12th), what are the chances of me getting this a/c? $30 is worth an 11hr flight. I think i will soon be board of it but I think it'll be cool to try out.

I, personally, think that this kind of tec. should be on the more business friendly routes like SFO-IAD SFO-ORD SFO-LAX LAX-SFO OAK-LAX PHX-SEA that have more business travelers. Charge the same rate and the damn thing will pay for it's self and some in just a few months!
