MELBOURNE: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has been voted number one for service in business class in a survey of 21 airlines by Australia's 10 leading travel writers.
The survey, conducted by the prestigious Luxury Travel Magazine, placed MAS fourth overall with 80 points after Cathay Pacific, Qantas and Ansett Australia.
MAS' business class flight attendants were voted the best in the survey for their quality service. Then came Cathay Pacific, Air New Zealand and Ansett.
MAS vice-president/general manager for Australia and New Zealand Azlan Hussain told Bernama he was delighted with the top ranking Malaysia Airlines had received.
"The high standard of service of our cabin crew has always been an integral part of Malaysia Airlines policy," he said.
"The true art of Malaysia Airlines' service reflects the natural warmth and hospitality of the Malaysian culture." he said.
The airline was placed third in regard inflight food.
However, Susan Borham, editor-in-chief of Gadly Media said of MAS cuisine: "I love the satays and the crew is consistently good."
Cathay Pacific and Ansett were adjudged to have better food.
MAS' endeavour to provide passenger comfort has paid off with the airline's aromatherapy travel kit being awarded third place in its usefulness as an amenities kit.
Cathay Pacific and Qantas proved well advanced in this section.
High-profile travel writer John Borthwich said:" MAS' business class on long haul flights is outstanding; the cabin crews are good humoured and attentive without being intrusive."
Another noted travel writer, Alan Hill said: "In business class with Malaysia Airlines ... everything seems to come together seamlessly: the food and wine are good, the seats are comfortable, the attendants pleasant and the entertainment good."
Azlan said the airline was upgrading its food service, with a "fantastic new range of children and economy class meals".
"In addition to our signature dish 'satay', we have incorporated an array of Malaysian delicacies for our first and business class passengers, including pandan chicken, lemon pepper prawn, Thai beef salad and a mango salad.
"Menu presentations were conducted on February 8 and another will be held next month," he said. "We are talking to a famous Australian chef to design signature dishes for Malaysia Airlines Australia-wide.
"Next month, wine tasting and selection sessions will be held to ensure our airline offers quality wines to passengers," he added.- Bernama
...All MAS needs to improve now is their network and frequencies which is probably where it falls short. Things should improve with the entry into 'Wings' which is pretty much inevitable with KLM's recent negotiations with MAS about equity exchanges.
