British Airways Charters

Thu Jun 10, 2004 9:23 pm

Do BA still operate inclusive tour charters ?
In the year 2000 i flew one a Style Holidays charter from MAN - Faro.
a/c - B757-200

Do they still undertake ITC's ?
They don't at MAN at the moment.

They do operate inclusive Tour Charters,

At LGW GB Airways operate 2 or 3 on a weekend on behalf of tour operators such as Barnwell Travel.

They were absolute hell to deal with!

Not sure about MAN tho..

My understanding of the thread is whether British Airways do Inclusive Tour Charters. The answer is no, and they haven't done them since BOAC days!

British Airtours was the main BA Charter subsidiary and operated numerous charters worldwide. They later changed to Caledonian Airways after BCAL was merged into British Airways. More recently Caledonian was absorbed elswhere in MyTravel, and others - I've lost track!

Caledonian and Flying Colours merged to become JMC Airlines, now known as Thomas Cook Airlines.

BA do operate some charter flights, such as the winter NCL-INN ski flights using 737-400s.

I think what the poster means is "do Tour Operators still charter BA a/c?

If this is the case, the answer is yes, as I used to check them in!

Off the top of my head, the RJs at MAN do charters to Pisa, Venice, Milan, Figari, Cagliari and Verona. With the usual Jersey runs by 146/DHC8/ERJ145.

Sometimes if you look at Teletext flight arrivals, you see BA flights arriving at MAN/BHX/LGW with flight numbers like BA1468C, now I always thought the "C" stood for charter, simply because sometimes, Concorde operated charters, usually round the Bay of Biscay or something, from MAN with "C" on its flight number. Can anyone clear up what this "C" stands for?

The C does indeed stand for charter.

I'll dig a few examples out from the schedules tonight.

BA fly charters to the usual Med destinations from Birmingham on weekends, to PMI IBZ MJV etc. I flew BA from BHX-MJV on an A319 and the flight number definately had a "C" at the end.

"they haven't done them since BOAC days!"
Not true- British Airways had an extensive IT program at Glasgow in the 80's using BA 757's ( not Caledonian ). To all the holiday hot spots for Inspirations which at one time had links with BA.

No airline would turn down a charter if they can make money on it, and have the metal available!

BD and VS also do IT charters, although VS ops are more for the cruise market than the bed and beach tourist.

Did BA do a charter from NCE to STR for the European club championship final, around the 26th of May ? I saw a BA 734 at NCE T1, but down the Schengen end, so presumably not operating a flight to the UK - as there were 8 or 9 flights on the board going out to STR, I was wondering if that was one of them ?

I think BD do some charters from Heathrow or MAN to Volus and Skiathos. I remember seeing an BD A321 in Corfu in August 2001. Virgin are currently flying A340-300 charters to San Juan on sundays from Gatwick.

Yes BA do have seasonal charters.

A lot of them from Gatwick are BA9***C to Ibiza, Mahon, Innsbruck, Chambery etc.

Hehe, I wish VS would do normal bucket and spade charters on top of their normal cruise flights, would be great to fly a B744 from LGW to ALC!

We had a BA charter flight here in PHX, it was for Audi I believe and it was a 744 (just before our daily LHR 772 flight changed to a 744, great to see a BA 747 & 777 here at the same time)!!!!! Sat here for a few days then onto LAS.

In winter, BA operates a lot of charters from various regional airport in the UK (EDI, BHX, GLA, NCL,...) to Geneva.

BD does some charters to Monastir in Tunisia, but not BA.
Next flights : BRU-ZRH-CAI (LX)/ BRU-FCO-TLV (AZ)
