John F. Kennedy Airport Terminal 3

Thu Jun 10, 2004 11:30 pm

I am flying out of JFK T3 next week, and I just want to know if there are any good locations where I can take some photos and just look at some planes. Any information will help, thanks.

The food court near the runways, not the upper level one with the Burger King but the large food court with the Sbarros has some great views.

Terminal 3 is one of the most historic airport terminals in the U.S. Take a walk down to gates 1-3. This is Pan Am's Worldport build in the 1950s. Of special interest:
The jetways to gates 1-3 and 16-18 pass over the arrivals/ departures roadways.

It's one of the only terminals where cars drive underneath the structure and check-in in the center of the structure.

The Pan Am Worldport is a big canopy that actually covers the noses of the aircraft parked in the six gates underneath it.

Look how close the 747s and other widebodies get to the windows in the terminal . . . very cool.

Thanks, a couple of years ago I saw a 747, and it was really close to the window. Very Nice, but I did not have any free time to walk around the terminal. This time I should have plenty of time. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I'm flying through terminal 3 this Saturday. I also have 4 hours to kill, so I'll be looking out for those planes.

There are 2 good spots -- but cops are around, so maybe you can get permission from the PA's PR department before you go:

a) by the bridge from the airtrain gives you a good view of Terminal 4 and some of the gates on Terminal 3.

b) at the end of the departure hall curb side -- right before you go inside the building -- you get an unobstructed view of Terminal 4's B gates. Very good as you may be able to take shots with the JFK tower in the background.

Good luck and enjoy the spotting!

Best,
