I don't think they fly them anymore, they've gone to an all Boeing fleet.

Here's the fleet according to Continental

I thought all of Continental's A300s were ex-Eastern birds. I wasn't aware that any of them were new builds.

They were gone by 95 or so under Bethune's fleet modernization/streamlining process.

Maybe they owned Eastern Birds but the ones that I am refering to are new Builds, Eastern's went to a Leasing company . and many still sit in the desert.

~ Look on the airbus.com website then look at the orders and deliveries

CO airlines is stated in there as Ordered 3 and Recived 3, but I cant find any tail numbers because I havnt seen any photos to look up who owns these 3 aircraft now.

CO had 6 A300 not from Eastern (the other 15 were old EA). The 6 CO A300s joined the fleet in about '86 and were WFU back in about '95. Anyway, three of the 6 were ex SQ and the other 3 were new "white tails" that had been sitting in at Airbus for a few years. CO was the first owner of those three, but they weren't built for them.

CO received 9 A300's direct from Airbus 3 new built and 6 second-hand machines, I am not sure of the total number they operated but it was in mid twenties, 26 rings a bell, saw a couple of them at Newark back in 86.

First, the A300 has been out of Continental's fleet since the mid to late 90's when Gordon Bethune took over. They where one of this first things he got rid of due to their high cost to operate and the high lease cost. The 3 A300 I found that where delivered NEW to CO are:

Bethune, in his book specifically mentions dropping the A300s as part of his streamlining the company when he became CEO. Because Continental had awful credit at the time they bought them there was no wayto make money flying the things even if they filled every seat on them. So, logically, they got rid of them, I guess it cost them a healthy chunk of change to drop all of them since they were still new at the time but it beats going backwards financially every time they take off.

That's my favorite Airbus to photograph. The A300 on the meatball colors and even on the newer colors looked great, anyone agrees with me? I miss them buses

If memory serves, the A-300's were introduced to CO's fleet about 1985. The company was recovering from (its first) bankruptcy and needed cheap capacity fast. Airbus had some brand new A-300 'white tails' (planes built but without customers to buy them) collecting dust on the shelf - Airbus was eager to get rid of them - so CO got the planes, probably on favorable terms.

Later on, after Texas Air Corp (then parent of CO) bought Eastern, some of Eastern's A-300's were transferred to CO.

Continental doesn't even have Embraer's and Beech/Raytheon aircraft. The Embraers are operated by Express Jet and the Beech are operated by it's CO Connection partners Commute Air and Gulfstream. Granted CO owns a good portion of ExpressJet, but it's still not CO. CO only has Boeing and MD equipment in it's fleet.

COEWRNJ, you're mostly right...

The Embraer RJ's are all ExpressJet, but Skywest operates EMB-120 props as Continental Connection out of IAH to several smaller markets in TX and LA. Two markets, ABI and SJT, are served by a mixture of both partner airlines.

COEWRNJ,

No problem...Skywest has only been operating out of IAH for a year or less.

If you aren't local or fly to the small markets, you probably wouldn't even know about it!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
