Route To Atlanta From South America?

Fri Jun 11, 2004 1:49 pm

I just wondering, what is the route, a plane from SCL to ATL leads? What about DL on this route? what a/c are they using now? On board service, is it good? Any experiences?,
Thanks.

The plane is a 767-300ER. Service is similar to a flight to Europe. 2 meals will be served. One is a dinner not too long after takeoff and then you have a small breakfast before landing.

From Atlanta, we flew over Key West and then near Havana. Later, the plane was over Grand Cayman Island and then continued towards Panama and Colombia before eventually entering the Pacific near Peru. Then, we followed the coast of Chile before reaching Santiago.

I can confirm it's a 763ER.
This is the route:

The 764ER's were always meant to do domestic flights, especially trans-continental domestic flights. As an exception, LIM gets a DL 764ER but the rest of DL's South American destinations get 763ER's (I don't know if 762ER's too).

I have never been on a DL flight to South America, but I have read here many times it is nothing special. If flights between JFK and MEX or ATL and MEX (those, I have done) are an indication, service is pretty average and perhaps subpar if compared to what Latin American carriers offer.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

Remember Eddie that DL also fly to BOG and CCS, and the last time I checked they still belonged to South America.  Big thumbs up Aircraft are 757-200 and 737-800 respectively on a daily basis from ATL.

I think there are no DL 762s flying from ATL to South America. Maybe the closest place to this continent to where Delta operates that version of the 767 is SJO.

Thanks for the clarification SOUTHAMERICA. I did not forget about CCS and BOG, I just assumed they got widebody service too. Of course now I realize that distance does not justify 763ER service.

Kavanagh,

If you are used to the service of LAN (Chile), then for sure you will find the service at Delta completely low quality. I flew their B767300 on the MAD-ATL-MAD route, on my way to/from Mexico and the service is quite low. Don't expect too much. Nothing if you compare it with great LAN's service (meals, attention, etc.)

In other words: Donde este LAN, que se haga Delta a un lado.

Can't wait to see the New Barajas ready

Delta does not have any 762ERs, all of the 762s are regular models, powered by CF6-80A2s to be precise.

Oye! que tampoco necesitamos un monopolio!

It's disgusting what LA did to CO, so it's better for us that LA doesn't fly to ATL!
