I would think this extra weekend flight would be to compete with F9's Sat. only service to CUN?

The STL flights are probably, as you said, to compete with F9, and STL continues it's AA tradition of being the red headed stepchild!  Big grin

The increased sections DFW-SEA are probably the product of two things, the cruise season is starting, and AA is moving to new facilities in SEA that might allow for increased service. I'll have to check on how many gates they will have. I'm guessing it's a similar situation to what they occupy currently, but it might have enough impact to offer increased service.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Does anyone know if AA is going to fly all 757's back into YVR for the summer and not the MD80's.

Perhaps there is a more plausible explanation... AA has recently entered into an extensive two-way code-share arrangement with Alaska Airlines. And few who follow these forums need to be reminded that SEA is to AS what DFW is to AA. Plus, SEA is among the more robust and growing O&D markets in the U.S.

Somehow it seems like the great state of Missouri and the former glorious hub of TWA gets what? a single additional weekly frequency to Cancun.

Wow talk about dropping a hub!

Guanacaste Liberia remains unchanged too.

Wow talk about dropping a hub!

No hub was dropped. American Airlines still has over 220 daily departures from St. Louis to over 65 cities.

I dont like the idea of more AA flights to GCM. I know im biased, but I wish they would just GET OUT!

It is a resumption of previously suspended service. AA went to two daily 757s on MIA-GCM after the Iraq situation in May 2003. Now they are back to three daily 738s, which better suits business travelers, since MIA-GCM is one of the main Caribbean business routes. I don't understand why you want them to get out. American Airlines is the second largest carrier at GCM, and they bring a lot of people to the island, not to mention compietition on the MIA-GCM route.

I just have a strong belief that Caribbean business should be supported. If they want 2 carriers on the route, try to get Bwee or AJ. Maybe even Island Air (Caymans other airline).

If AA were to "get out" of GCM it would have a devastating effect on the Island--huge numbers of business travelers are connecting in from latin America, Europe, Canada, continental US, even Asia (via Oneworld partners Cathay and BA)--Cayman Airways is basically a tiny government subsidized tour operator and could under no circumstances offer any real competition for AA on extensive route networks--even if Cayman Airways were (and it never would be under its model) entered into Star or another alliance--

Neither could any other Caribbean airline offer the connections necessary for the Cayman Islands--no way---

Most people would welcome a 4th AA MIA flight--leaving MIA around 8PM and returning same day with a departure from GCM to MIA at 10PM or so--at least they should add those flights on peak days like Thursday Friday, Sunday and Monday

Finally, I would point out that AA offers excellent service--the only complaint being MIA hub can be inconvenient at times but that is improving.

get united to to the route and codeshare with KX. Cayman Airways is moving to better things now. they are expanding at an amazing rate. In the last year they have doubled their fleet and improved service. I think they still do some codsharing with United. Why not operate in cojunction with UA out of Miami and Chicago (improve loads on the route). I just dont like AA. Bad experiences.

How would that improve loads on the route, which are already strong as is? United offers no feed from Miami.

Hmmm...

Not new destinations, but two new European routes have been launched this year, Boston-Manchester and JFK-Brussels. A third, Miami-Manchester, launches in November.

This is another example of American's (and the industry at large) of increasing available seats way too early during the industry's recovery. This keeps fares far too low for any carrier to make a profit. It is irresponsible business and just harms everyone in the long run.

So what will the new PDX Sced look like? thrice daily to ORD, and six you said to DFW? I bet they are all MD-80s too!!!! AHHHHH! When are we going to get the 757 back, or for that matter, why isn't ORD a 738!!!!!

They ARE adding an additional London Gatwick flight from DFW. That makes 3 nonstops, plus BA makes 4 DFW-LGW flights. Thats more than they've ever had.

Not true IMHO. What keeps fares too low is not current and projected increases in available seats, nor is it the "total lack of pricing power" as the legacy/would-be-cartel airlines would have us believe.

What is keeping fares "far too low for any carrier to make a profit" (hey, what about WN, HP and B6?) is the legacies' lack of pricing discipline. Their first and foremost concerns are market share and load factors (aka "packing 'em in") -- which became eminently clear when I recently took our pricing department to task for matching a senseless "garbage fare" in a market that has consistently borne realistic fares that are equitable to both consumer and our airline, while maintaining strong load factors.

It was so obvious as to "reach out and slap me in the face" that our pricing staff will go to any lengths to buy market share and load factor. Nowhere in their lengthy reply was the word "profitable yield" mentioned. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that there have been lots of non-profit, bankrupt and defunct airlines who are/were leaders in market share and load factors.

"Excess capacity" and "lack of pricing power" are nothing more than strawman scapegoats thrown at us by the legacies to cover up their lack of pricing discipline. My airline is but one case in point: seats we could -- and absolutely would -- be selling at realistic fares are not available for us to sell because they were essentially given away weeks or months ago in the interest of meeting the paramount objectives of market share and "packing 'em in" -- neither of which has ever made a dime of profit for an airline; on the other hand there is ample evidence to suggest that success in meeting these objectives has had an opposite effect on financial results for many an airline, past and present.

Scotty

If you mean AA's loads out of MAN, they regularly haul over 90% full on both flights. The ORD flight in particular has excellent loads and has done consistently well.

The BOS flight also looks to have good forward bookings into the summer.

panam64- I sure hope so being a huge STL user.....im guessing the # of flights will be the same just a matter of upgrades from RJ to to MD80/757, altho we could see more frequency which is the same as flights so yeah who knows.lol

Not sure how many times I will need to read and re-read the list of new flights announced by AA before it "sinks in" that these are all actually honest-to-goodness American Airlines flights. Suppose my response is to be expected inasmuch as such an announcement has typically come mean, in reality, 48 should-be-mainline flights handed over to American Eagle and about 2 token flights (if that) operated by the real American Airlines.

Thanks for a rare "new service announcement" post with a title that truthfully represents its content.
