Thai Confirms They Will Order A380

Sat Jun 12, 2004 11:34 pm

Short paragraph in AWST announcing that Thai will become the fourth Asian carrier for the A380. According to their president they have not determined the number of aircraft they will order.....only that they WILL place an order soon.

Not a lot of details..but it's better than a rumor.

With Farnborough coming up in the next few weeks, maybe we will see an order placed there.

Can anyone guess which routes they will operate on? I hope from LAX, cause I fly to Thailand often to see my family, and mostly through LAX. Would they maybe send them to LHR?

Great news - I hope that the Thai order won't be the only new A380 order this year...

those A380's shall look great in Thai's scheme
Roberta, weren't there reports that Thai has a new livery in development? Even though I don't really like their current scheme, I think it would be great to see an A380 in it...

Great, it was only a matter of time before they would be ordered, just like it's only a matter of time before CX will order theirs.

My guess is AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA, LHR and CDG as possible destinations for TG's A380's.

Well thats a shame Thai are changing their livery. I heard KE were changing theirs too, two great liveries leaving us dammit. So it seems the A380 is picking up many orders in Asia. I expect CX and several Chinese Airlines to follow through too.

That's probably CPH's only possibility to see the A380...let's hope so.

Thai will become the fourth Asian carrier for the A380

After:
1) Singapore
2) Emirates
3) Malaysia
4) Qatar
5) Korean

ConcordeBoy,
Most people think of Emirates and Qatar as Middle Eastern carriers, even though they are really in Asia.

This is very good move for TG and will make more orders with A380. They already make comfirmed on the orders with VS, LH, MH, KE, QR, EK, AF, QF, SQ.

Not surprising. After SQ and MH, TG didn't have much choices but to order the A380 too.

JL and NH will feel the same kind of pressure when AF, LH and and VS start sending their A380s to Japan.

Ka,

I agree. BA already announced that they were interested in the A380. I don't see them ordering this plane before 2006 but after that, I think it will only be a matter of time before they order it...

If any airline Color scheme would look good on the A380, it would be Air India.

I'm really surprised that no airlines from mainland China has ordered A380 as of now. Instead they seem to be more interested in 7E7.

How many airlines are in mainlined china, I think its a few though. If I were the CEO of aircraft I would reather go for the whole of aisa that China Main Land, wouldn't you agree.

I know this is quite an od remark but haven't you noticed that the 8 in A380 reminds you of the two decks in the aircrafts and how the 4 kind of represent the 4 engines on the a340 ( Airbus's FIRST 4 engine jet), The 300 seats in a A300.

Spectacular news!! I am so excited and so happy for Thai! This is great news for Airbus as well. Too bad the 747 isn't doing as well. Hopefully the advanced version will go through. Once again I am very excited to see the A380 join Thai's fleet. Maybe this will be the introduction of a new paint scheme?  Big grin

As for China, the A380 is a surprising no go... but seasons change and so can their opinion...

A senior official with China's aviation regulator said last week, however, that Chinese airlines were "very interested" in the new Dreamliner, preferring it to the A380.

"We are more interested in the 7E7 than in A380," he told reporters.

"The A380 is too big, while the 7E7 seems a better choice for long-haul flights. We might place orders for the 7E7 in the future."

I suppose it is good news for Airbus and aviation in general, although I don't think it wise to use such an announcement as an excuse to ring the death bell for the Boeing 747. The latter may be in decline (maybe terminal decline?), but it quite agreeable to state that Thai had little option in the context of the competition and how other airlines are intending to structure their fleet and services in the near future.

I think Thai will use the A380's on American and Pacific routes. Especially to SYD, AKL, MEL and LAX. These routes are crowded already by using their 744's and the airline would benefit from the increased seat avaliability to those areas.

great news !!!!! TG ...... my homecarrier!!!! i guess they will only get like 3 or 4....more than that would be too big an expansion for TG.

about the routes i would guess that it will defo be AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA and LHR. maybe the ozzie routes but don't think that the states will see a TG 380....TG doesn't really make money on the LAX route and besides they are getting the 345s especially fot the US

so cant wait to see the new corporate id.better be good and colourful.it's been 30 years since the last revamp.would love to see a proper orchid on the tail fin!

Good news for having more A380 in Asia. As it is likely that CX will not order it in near future, I hope more foreign carriers will bring their A380 to HKG.

This order has been rumored for months, and should be signed at Farnborough (Too bad I'm leaving England too soon to be there).  Crying

Supposedly, Airbus was not too upset that VS postponed their aircraft, as Thai was willing to step in and take those production slots. Just what I've heard anyway.

Numbers are @10, with a similar number of options. This is the 'Asian customer' Airbus has been mentioning acquiring all year.

Finally, as BoeingBus has already stated - don't look for a Chinese order in the forseable future.

Is there anywhere an official statement or press article where this VS-delay is confirmed. I think it is strange that since just a few weeks the first VS A380 (MSN 10) got its registration allocated by the British aviation authorities with delivery in spring/summer 06 as G-VXXL.
Regarding this delay I have not read anything besides on a.net. But I let myself be convinced by any facts/links/press releases.

Thanks for any clarification.

You would think that an Indian carrier would be interested in the A380.. look at LHR-DEL... always fully booked with 747 service...imagine an A380 service.

TG is now building a new hangar at Suvarnabhumi Airport (New Bangkok International Airport) with capability to house 2 A380s at the same time.

TG new paint scheme would be first on its A345 early next year.

As far as I have heard, the logo will be the same with some modification to have a 3-D look. The word "Thai" will be changed to have more modern image. I have no information about the paint scheme but I also hope that it will still be colorful.
