LAS Mothballed Aircraft

Sun Jun 13, 2004 8:45 am

HELLO ALL,
I just returned from Las Vegas and when I was there I noticed that all of the mothballed aircraft that I used to see are gone. I always enjoyed seeing the former TWA L-1011 in last double globe scheme as well as the ex United aircraft. Can anyone tell me where the have gone? They used to be parked at the back of the airport adjacent to the strip and you could get very close to them. I was disappointed to see that they were gone.
Happy Skies!

I love going to that spot, right at the end of Four Seasons Drive! Are the Fokkers gone too?

Until January of this year I was in Vegas at least once per month for business. Since October of 2000, the number of aircraft stored on the "Strip" side of McCarren has steadily declined, not sure why? In January there was just an ex-UA DC-10-30 parked.

Their souls have gone to aircraft heaven while their bodies are processed into baked bean cans!  Crying

I am joking however. I hope this has not happened. May be they can be parked somewhere for just a little longer before more indignity is experienced. Especially the Tristars, which I have always liked so much.  Wink/being sarcastic

The UA DC-10 was finally broken up about 2 months ago. The 2 USAir F-100s have been moved, but I think there should still be an EMB-120 sitting around there. Check http://www.cactuswings.com for more info

Omni still uses that area to service their aircraft too which is cool.

Numerous times I saw the aircraft stored in this area of LAS, but I never saw any of them being broken up in public view.

If they were broken up at LAS, where did they do this?

A correction..

That pic I took above is not being dismantled, it was being serviced. Omni has no hangers there and must service their planes in that area.

As of June 9, the 2 US Airways F-100s were still there.

I agree with Jcarv,I was there the end of May,the UA DC-10 was scrapped in April. When I went in 99 the was like 5 UA DC-10/747-100/200's in storage. LAS doesn't seem to store many planes anymore.I never saw a plane scrapped in LAS before N1855U,the DC-10-30. Must have needed too much work after sitting there a few years for a ferry flight to like Marana or VCV.
The old UA 737-222 was also scrapped recently.
