Airbus Cargo Aircraft

Wed Jun 16, 2004 5:59 am

Airbus currently has one cargo aircraft on the market, the A300-600F and soon the A380-800F. Do you think that the A330 has potential to becoming a cargo aircraft or an extended A321(300/400F) carrying as much as the 757? . I think that a freighter comes by chance for Airbus or maybe they only use compatible aircrafts.

This is just about Airbus' concern in the cargo market and our consern for them.
If you think not, try not use 'no' to tell us what you think and explain why

Thanks.

The A330 will probably make a good freighter. Decent MZFW and a good spread with OEW that provided the fuselage/floor structure can be revised, it should work out well. About 2 years back they were close to offering a A330-200F to UPS and others but decided not to due to engineering resources needed for the A380.

The A321 on the other hand would probably be a dismal freighter. That wing and fuselage structure has been stretched far enough and the revised fuselage, floor and door structure changes would likely add so much to OEW that you would probably end up with a freighter in the 20 ton class.

I all ways thought it would be a good freighter to replace the old A300-600F.
I guess UPS is still going aircraft because they are acquiring a few A380s.

Maybe when they're finally done with the A380 Airbus' engineers will get to develloping the A330 cargo... Let's hope.

If I remember correctly, a military version of the A330 is also planned, as a freighter/refueler...

It'd be interesting to see how a A320/321 cargo version would perform, sales wise.
there are quite a few old 737/727 freighters out there that will need replacement. And the A320 family has proven to be a workhorse.

But I guess It'd be sound to expect from someone to propose a freighter conversion of those before Airbus, if ever, designs a purposedly built a/c.
I'll do my own airline. With Blackjack. And hookers. In fact, forget the airline.

Even though the A330F will be a very capable, efficent aircraft (compared to any rival), the A300F is still an excellent aircraft, and is evident by the fact that UPS have orders for it. Even though there have been recent reports that the US cargo giant wants to cancel the order, that is due to the lagging cargo market rather than the fact that the A300F is performing less than expected

The A330-200F is ready to go to production... ILFC, FX, and 5X were candidates, as well as EVA Air.

No interest caused Airbus to shelve it.

-I guess UPS is still going ''aircraft''- Sorry my mistake, I made a very silly mistake. I meant AIRBUS. I guess UPS is till going AIRBUS. LOL Sorry.

I had no idea that Airbus had the A330 in the making. Thanks for the up date!

It might seem to be just an interest but isn't it convincing that they will be a future carrier. Someone here has a forum and its about 4 US airlines airbus chairmen is getting them interested in the 380. I haven't even really gotten into the forum yet.  Big grin
