LTU really wants to grow that is obvious. The question is who they want to attract. Business passengers will not like their frequencies while cities like New York are not exactly typical charter destinations.
Years ago I already talked to friends saying that if it were up to me I would merge LTU with (then still called-) Deutsche BA
and build up a "real" airline turning away from the charter network. It would have DUS
as main base and be able to serve 15 million people of the Rhein-Ruhr area. Well Deutsche BA
is now dba but LTU seems to go in this direction anyways, just without a merger having Air Berlin feed their flights.
