Good stuff.

Would love to see 'em order the 772LR for NRT-JNB, that'd be an interesting endeavor  Big grin

Who else is expected to receive 777-300ER's? How many of them...the Boeing site is a bit awkward in terms of its orders from which companies and numbers...ConcordeBoy, do you have this info or a way or getting it?

Good to see, although it is interesting that it will take so long for them to build up the fleet (8 aircraft in 4 years). As a comparison, KLM received their first 777 in November 2003; they will received their 10th one by February 2005.

Also, ConcordeBoy, thought you might be interested:

First -200LR is l/n 504, for PIA, shop complete scheduled for 2/10/05, delivery set for Feb. '06. First -200LR delivery is l/n 521, for Jan. '06 delivery. Design now 80% complete.

Thanks Hamster
Sad that they'll basically sit for 5mo before someone is ready to take delivery. Was always sorta hoping that someone (e.g., SQ when they inevitably toss those A345s) would step in and take 'em circa July '05

"Sad that they'll basically sit for 5mo before someone is ready to take delivery."

They actually won't be sitting. As the first aircraft produced, they will be undergoing ground/flight/route testing to gain a supplemental operating certificate. All new derivatives must be certified with the respective governing bodies. Admittedly, it doesn't need to take a full year, but trust me, these aircraft will be busy.

...of course I know that, but unless the schedules have changed (which could very well be the case), was not certification scheduled to be completed by July '05? Hence the statement.

ConcordeBoy,

First flight will be sometime in March. Once this happens, it will be followed by a roughly 6-7 month flight test program, which makes certification either late Sept. or Oct. Still, a ways off from delivery in Jan. 2006, but not too long. Of course, I expect they'll also use one or both of these aircraft to run a number of sales campaigns, which will delay the flight test program. And of course, you know they'll be trying to break some records as well. . .  Wink/being sarcastic

I'm hoping it'll be at LBG during the show...

...while I realize that the A380 will most likely steal the show, I will be there specifically to see the 772LR.

It will begin with regional training routes, IIRC NRT-HKG will be the first. Once those are done, the plan is to send them Trans-Pacific. Have not heard a specific destination.

I must admit I'm rather surprised that Airbus didn't attempt to go for the 772ER's record with those A345 thingies.

9M-MRA's record still stands

I was as well. OTOH, there was possibly two things that stopped them: 1) they knew the A340-500 would be operating the longest non-stop flight in the world anyway, which is probably more meaningful anyway, and 2) any record they attempted to perform with the A345, Boeing would probably break in 2005/06 with the 772LR, so why bother?

Just some suggestions,

Couldnt agree with you more.

There's buzz that they're working on some A345HGW fortification, which will allegedly make that aircraft "more comparable" to the 772LR's promised specs.

I however find it mighty droll that Airbus, the Grand Mistress of PR/Propaganda, refuses to advertise both it and the supposed A346HaddaGoodWhizgigging nonsense.

I imagine the 773ER will likely be Boeing's 'sleeper' aircraft. I don't think it's full potential will be realized by carriers for a few years...and then a flood of orders to replace 774's will appear.

Just speculation, but it's beat all it's initial performance quanties by a large margin...in fact, it appeared at one point, that Boeing itself was surprised at the aircrafts capabilities....

Not to denegrate what Airbus offers, the 340-600 will also evolve into a solid performer....

HAHAHA, ConcordeBoy, that will be a sight!!!!, has anyone tried standing behind it at full thrust????

Anyway, how does the GE-90 compare to an F-15 engine or a345 engine(blown away or just surpassed?)???

The GE90 is certified at more than twice the power of the A345's Trent500, and (in testing) has produced more than five additional tons of thrust on top of that.

I wonder if that 5 months or so will include a tour?

They did it with the 764 and 753 in recent years. There will be air shows to think of too, which stretches the time out between rollout and delivery.

Presumably the first frame will also need a refit after testing with the customer ordered cabin layout. It isn't really that much time between rollout and delivery to PIA. The second one isn't a consecutive line number so that will probably not go into build until the middle of the year at the earliest.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find my own way there...

I wonder if it will have that new J class of theirs.

As for NRT-JNB, that would be great. Or NRT-JNB-CPT (Cape Town rules!)

ConcordeBoy,

ANA's first aircraft is scheduled for delivery in Sept. However, their 2nd won't be delivered until April '05. Kinda odd. I'm also wondering if we will finally see the new ANA livery with the first 777-300ER, or if we'll have to wait until 2008. . .

Emirates takes delivery of their first 2 aircraft, 1 each from GECAS and ILFC, in March '05.

Also, by end-April '05, Air France will have 10 birds in the fleet through both leases and direct-purchases.
