Happy Birthday Delta Airlines!

Thu Jun 17, 2004 7:39 am

June 17, 1929 was the inaugural date of the launch of Delta Air Lines. The first route was Dallas-Shreveport-Monroe-Jackson in a Travelair. They would lose this route to American Airlines in 1930 and re-enter the passenger market on August 1, 1934. This time the route went from Dallas to Charleston, SC. The rest is history:

Merge with C&S airlines in 1954, first routes to west coast in 1961, buy
Northeast Airlines in 1972, Open London Gatwick route in 1978, buy Western Airlines in 1987, gain access to Japan in 1987,and purchase the Pan Am Frankfurt operation in 1991. Happy 75th to Delta!!

I'll celebrate only if my flight back to Paris with connection (BUF / ATL / CDG) is better than the connection I've had in CVG on my inbound flight!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
Flying is amazing!

Even though I took my first Delta flight in November of last year, I've become kinda fond of flights on the widget; their employees are very nice to all passengers. Since November I have taken 23 Delta flights (19 mainline and 4 ComAir) and it, in short order, has taken over as my 2nd most flown carrier in my life (based on flights segments). #1 is Northwest with probably well over 50 or 60 flights....

Happy 75th to Delta (a SkyTeam member... lol just like in their PA announcements)!!! I hope they escape the financial difficulties and have many more birthdays.

Incidentally, I will fly my 10th and 11th lifetime flight segments this weekend on another fine carrier, Continental...CoEX, to be exact.... SAV-EWR-SAV....
Go Blue!!

Happy B-day, DAL!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, are there any other airlines that reached the 75th anniversary mark? I know NWA reached it in July, 2002. I have a commemorative issue of World Traveler marking the occasion.
I convert Jet A and 100LL into noise.

Happy B-day Delta! Someday, I hope to be working for you! Big grin

NWADC9- KLM comes to mind. I think it's the oldest airline in the world. TWA may have made it to 75, too.

This month's edition of Sky magazine is a Commemorative Anniversary Issue. The entire issue is dedicated to showcasing the life of Delta, including a timeline along the bottom of the pages, experiences from many passengers, experiences from Delta employees, and a 35 question quiz for the chance to win 25,000 Skymiles. I passed with flying colors, of course  Smile Also inside is a showcase of Delta's aircraft, comparison between a Travelair and a 777, and the trend of Delta uniforms. God I am glad I was not alive during the late 60's, early 70's. I would not have been able to live with those styles. The 80's were bad enough. There is a great article on the Delta museum and it's DC-3, "Ship 41." I would encourage all to pick up a copy.

Happy Birthday, Delta!!!
