Pleasant Surprise AV B767 At FLL

Thu Jun 17, 2004 9:23 am

While driving down I-95 tonite had a pleasant surprise. An AVIANCA
B767 flew right over my head on final approach. Business must be good
on the FLL-BOG route. I know that a B757 normally operates this flight.
Is the upgrade a onetime thing? temporary? or just for the Summer?
Very nice to see an International widebody at FLL.

Just checked Avianca's website, and it indeed confirms the 767 to FLL. It's a one off though. It will be a 757 tomorrow and the next few days.
Having said that, AV's 762's have only 175 seats, (only about 15 more than the 757), with generous legroom.
I do hope that business is good. AV has increased fequencies to MIA from BOG, as well as serving it from Medellin, Cali and Barranquilla an Cartagena on separate flights

Kind off a typical scene being Avianca. You have a MD83 schedule for your flight, and a 767 turns up !.

AV has increased fequencies to MIA from BOG, as well as serving it from Medellin, Cali and Barranquilla an Cartagena on separate flights

...which have also seen increased service.

AV has also increased operations on the BOG-JFK route, going from one daily flight to two dailies.

SOUTHAMERICA-

Is that because of maintenance reasons? or are their flights so typically
overbooked that they must substitute larger aircraft? Do they have
spare aircraft sitting around that they make these substitutes so
quickly? That must really play havoc with crew scheduling if you have
MD-83 scheduled and switch it to a B767.

GARUDAROD,

Haha, I was just exaggerating a bit.  Big grin . It happens mostly on international routes and once in a while, not frequently; although domestic legs indeed have seen the normal last-minute equipment change. It could be due to several reasons, one of them being maintenance as you mention.
