Thanks for all the feedback.
It wasn't a Government purchase, so why should he have bought the A340?
Like I said, he himself has very very close connections with France. He invests in France a lot, and he owns a mansion in Corsica and I believe has a home in Paris.
He has a lot of French business connections.
Having flown both, by far 777 has much more impressive flying experience... This is nothing to do with the capability of the A343, but being an aviation enthusiast its just not a fun plane to fly on.
I completely agree. From a personal perspective, I'm glad he chose the 777 instead of the A340.
I've flown the A340-300 three times and the 777-200 about probably 15 times and I by far prefer the 777 in every way.
Also, isn't the PM a pilot himself?
Well maybe he wanted to keep a balance Between A and B....MEA has airbus and he has Boeing.
Speaking of MEA
. He was largely responsible for helping MEA
acquire its new A321 and A330 fleet. He helped them politically, as MEA
is government owned.
Oger is also a Saudi company.
Saudi Oger is a Saudi company.
However the parent company, Oger International is French. He bought the company in the early 80's, but kept its French identity.
He recently started Oger Liban (Liban is French for Lebanon).
Saudi Arabian Airlines operate the 777 with GE90 engines, just like the Oger one.
Servicing and spares were probably part of the consideration.
Servicing is done by a European maintenance contractor. The name of the contractor currently escapes me however...
