Will NW Replace The KLM-NW Logo

Fri Jun 18, 2004 8:35 am

Just a curious thought.
Will NW take off the NW KLM worldwide reliability logo when they put the SkyTeam logo on the a/c? Delta and KE have the logo on the front of the a/c near the forward door. This would be a logical place for NW to put the SkyTeam logo as well.
As most a.net people would know, NW and KLM have a unique relationship. They essentially started the world of true codesharing, and the relationship will continue even when both are in the SkyTeam. The began revenue sharing over the Atlantic before most airlines even considered codesharing.

KLM might lose their logo to AF someday, though...

in fact, the Dutch government should have executed the law of the land and banned KLM from further use of the title "royal" (which forms the K in KLM) and associated crown (which forms an integral part of the logo).

According to Dutch law foreign-owned companies are illegal to carry the title "royal" so it should be stripped, but some minister decided to not do so and everyone meekly went along (no doubt on orders from Paris via Brussels).

Some aircraft are missing the NW/KLM logo. But once we officially enter the SkyTeam Alliance, we will be taking on the SkyTeam's logo.

AirframeAS....

I think you are referring to the "Wings Alliance" logo. It was not publicized much, if at all. It was NWA/KLM/Alitalia's answer to the Star Alliance and the Sky Team Alliance.

It never really took hold or was hyped by an of the partner carriers. This was around the time when NW was trying to encourage KLM and Alitalia to form a similar partnership to that of what NW/KLM had.

Alitalia and KLM could never agree on the financial sharing so KLM gave up and pulled all code-share flights with Alitalia.

WRONG. Any company that the Queen sees fit may carry the royal titles. These titles are granted by, and if deemed necessary pulled back, by the Queen and no one else. It does not matter where the company is from, but it is rare to get a foreign company. In the recent past Fokker used to be "royal" even when they where 100% daughter of German company DASA. Same goes for Koninklijke Shell which is part Dutch part English.

Now I remember where I saw it. I saw it on a flight schedule in and on an A320 in SEA while it was on a RON.

Thank you Petertenthije for explaining that one. I was wondering what would happen to the crown and the "Royal" part of it.
If there are two things that the French must consider to keep from the Dutch part of the new Air France-KLM company, to my mind it would be asking Queen Beatrix to keep the crown as part of their new emblem, and secondly I would DEARLY miss the Dutch houses we get in World Business Class filled with jenever as gifts... As for Nothwest/KLM logo, I also think that will be replaced by the Skyteam logo as it is more inclusive.
