Alcoholic Drink : 4$/4€

Sat Jun 19, 2004 2:55 am

Yesterday evening, I've flown Delta (ATL - CDG / Coach / B767-300) and I've had to pay for all the alcoholic beverages.
In may, I've flown CDG/PVG - HKG/CDG (coach section) and the alcoholic beverages were free. (It was the same for CDG / CVG).
How is it for other US carriers?
I'll fly CDG - LHR - LAX - LHR - CDG in july (coach) and i'm wondering if it will be like AF or like DL?
Flying is amazing!

They recently implemented that to try to save money. Was the meal service free?

If you purchased it with your "Delta Skymiles" credit card, you would have received an enticing 500 bonus miles.  Wink/being sarcastic

At least they now let us keep the headsets after we pay for them.

Also $5 on AA.

I already have some $5-Bills in my ticket wallet, just in case I get thirsty...

But maybe this helps to keep down the number of drunks in a plane....

Just a quick point to those bringing their own booze on board - if you're on a British aircraft, and you get caught, you'll have the drink confiscated, and there's always the possibility of being arrested as you've broken the air navigation order. And a quick reminder, no airline offers free drinks - if you don't pay for them on board, part of your ticket price has been allocated to cover the cost.

This is very confusing for people who thought that they've bought a ticket on AIR FRANCE only to learn that they are on DELTA. AIR FRANCE does not charge for their drinks, and yet, DELTA does. But you're theoretically on an AIR FRANCE ticket... would DELTA then only charge $ for their passengers and not AIR FRANCE passengers.

BEST thing for people to do. AVOID all US carriers if you want free drinks. Rather than second guessing who gives or doesn't give free drinks.. take a non - US carrier. At least you know that drinks will be free, and service will be good!

While we busy avoiding the US carriers on our flights to Europe we might want to avoid the Canadian one as well, as I believe they charge as well.

AA had a "soft" policy on my way JFK-CDG-JFK.

Outbound, we were delayed 3½ hours so we got free drinks (and 8000 free miles. Thx AA!)

Inbound, I paid $4 for a bottle of red wine. Then, during meal service, I got a free bottle. Three hours out from JFK, an F/A was bored and offered me a cocktail on the house.

I think that one free bottle of wine/drink/beer with dinner, and paying for the rest, is a good policy in monkey class. But if the airline has such a policy, they should announce it during climbout.

It's understandable why the Irish carrier would not give free drinks to their passengers.

Different airlines have different policies towards alcohol in the US, but of those that I have flown, all charge domestically, and do not internationally.

I just flew AA ZRH-JFK last week. The beers were $5 or 7 CHF. I'm not sure what they would be in EUROs.

I thought UAL's international provides free alcoholic drinks in coach. When did they start charging?

NW still provides free alcoholic drinks on our int'l routes (Pacific & Atlantic).

Aer Lingus charge for alcohol, both in Europe and on the Atlantic in economy class. They charge for all food too in Europe.

Only the very few business class services now offered in Europe & on the Atlantic offer "free" booze

Do not bring your own alcohol on board an American carrier. It is against the law to drink anything alcoholic not served to you by a Flight Attendant on ALL American carriers ALL flights. The reason why this law is in effect is so that the FA's can monitor alcohol consumption on board and avoid any "unpleasantness". Some will hold your adult beverage in the galley and serve you from your own stash others will not. Keep in mind they still have the right to refuse you even if it is your alcohol for the safety of the others on board if they feel you are getting too intoxicated. You risk having the alcohol confiscated or worse. It is a offense punishible by hefty fines and even jail time. Please enjoy yourselves responsibly. Concealing it is only going to make the crew mad and the consequences worse if/when you are caught. Belive me we aren't as dumb as we look I've seen it all. Gingerale bottles full of crown, 6packs in coolers, waterbottles full of margaritas...just don't do it.
Enough about flying lets talk about me!

dstc47,

BA offer free drink on all flights, whether domestic, European or long haul.

My personal record on the GLA-LHR shuttle is 3 double G & T and a can of Stella. Big grin
