With the advent of the long hot summer, more folks are taking to the skies. And even after almost three years since 911 and five years since Air Rage became all the media rage; many folks still just don't get it. It's Common Sense Deficit Disorder. at your friendly neighborhood airport. Believe it or not, these things still happen all too frequently which in turn make it less pleasant for the rest of us. As my parents still stress: "Just use the brain that God gave you and you will be amazed at how smooth things can be." Just think a bit and do a little extra planning and you greatly increase your chances of a pleasant flying experience. Here are some symptoms of C.S.D.D.

Cutting things way too close.
Failure to have name tags on baggage
Neglecting to re-confirm your flight times and flight numbers. Especially if you make your plans months in advance, flight numbers and times change. When in doubt, check it out and personally re-check this information. We have had records of passenger receiving 17 emails regarding these changes and they are at out ticket counter or gates having multiple litters of kittens informing us of how stupid we are.
The year is 2004, not 1964! Meaning, the good old days of every loved one including pets traipsing to the gates to see you off are long gone; along with cheap gasoline. Folks, we just are following FAA and other Federal rules. We all want 100% safety and security but, when we want exceptions, you better give in!
"my flight is 2 hours late so, I don't have to arrive at the airport and check my overpacked hernia bags until 2 hours later!" In a perfect world this would be the case but you know, stuff happens! Planes can be swapped, aircraft make up time etc...Hurry up and wait sucks. I agree. But, suppose, I came into your bank or government agency and demanded , that you accommodate me because your Monday through Friday 9 to 5 hours inconvenience me... Heck, if I did that in your place of business, I'd be tossed out faster than Donald Trump bleats "You're Fired!"
Especially in the East, summer brings high heat, stifling humidity which in turn breeds.. You guessed it! Thunder Storms. It can be 98 degrees and sunny at BWI, but there is a 50 minute weather delay for your BOS flight. Because, your plane just so happens to be coming from ATL where, there are some killer thunderstorms. We can't give away the store (airline) because Mother Nature threw us a curve ball!
The airline as UMNR baby sitter. Most kids traveling unaccompanied want to get where they are going. They are flying alone and many times scared. To have to wait for their parents or guardians upon arrival is tacky. 95% of UMNR parents or guardians are excellent when it comes to being on time but, that 5% is a royal pain in the you know what.

There are many aspects of flying in this day and age that are inconvenient, time consuming and seem just plain dumb. However there is rhyme and reason for everything. If you treat others the way you want to be treated. And exercise some common sense and consideration then your next trip on a plane can be an enjoyable experience and not a diversion to misery.  Wow!
P.s. I know, I'm preaching to the choir here at A Net
