Saudi Arabian Airlines B747 Classic Fleet & Routes

Sun Jun 20, 2004 10:12 am

Saudi has a few 743, 741 in its fleet, including a 741 freighter. Can anybody provide me with the exact number of classics they fly and what routes are they on?

I do know that the 741F flies to Brussels, New York and Houston.

That pic shows a 747-100 with RB211's. I thought the 742 was the first to have those (BA).Were these a/c retrofitted or were they delivered new with those powerplants?

SV operates 741 and 743 in pax version to DAC and CMB on regular basis.
I think SIN, KUL and CGK also get 743.

CKT, i believe that to be a 747-100B, which did have RB211s offered. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, this is correct AirxLiban. SV was the only customer for the 747-100B, which was available with all 3 powerplants.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

SV 74L flights can not be regular. They are only used for government flights and no scheduled flights ...

SV is the sole costumer for the 747-100Bs with RR engines. The actual lunch costumer for the 747-100B was Iran Air, who ordered 4 or 5. Only one (EP-IAM) was delivered. The others were not built due to the USA embargo against Iran. The IR 747 (186B, 286B, 2J9F & SP86) PW powered.

Saudia flies the B 741 to LAHORE regularly and the B 743 to ISLAMABAD.

Other airports that I know for sure that receive their B 743 and B 741s are BANGKOK-CAIRO-JAKARTA-SINGAPORE-KUALA LUMPUR-MANILA-CALCUTTA-DELHI-MUMBAI-CHENNAI and TRIVANDRUM.

Hi all,

To make things easier:

The 741 is used only for flights to the Far east and the Indian subcontinent. In addition, the JED-KAN flight uses the 741.

The 743 is used on some of the 741 routes plus Cairo and on domestic flights.

The 744 is used on the JED-JFK/IAD flight and to AB) (MNL / RPLL), Philippines">MNL. In the summer, JED/RUH-LHR is operated by the 744.

One question, why did Saudi took delivery the 741B in 1981 ? They might as well ordered the more advanced -200 right ?

HZ-AIA surprisingly was built in 1981 !

Cheers

SV got them for the same reason IR did. The 100B actually was more advanced than the 200s of the time and meet the two airlines hot and high requirements. The 100Bs are not to be confused with original 100 from the early 1970s. The original ones were quite under-powered.

Horus,

Ahlan Beek!
You are right. After cutting back on their flights to the US, SV started using the 744 on many short-medium flights, including CAI.
And thanks for the link....Very helpful, if updated on a regular basis.

L.1011,

Thanks for the details.

JED/RUH-LHR is operated by the 744.

When has this ever happened? I have often flown RUH-JED or JED-RUH on a 744 or a 743 but the LHR leg has always been a 777.

SV also flies over my house here in London on its way into LHR but I have never seen a 744 here unless it does the overnight flight which I don't get to see.

The SP was here last week, I think it was Wednesday afternoon.
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

Babybus,

SV operates the 744 on the JED/RUH - LHR service towards the end of the summer vacation, first week of September. Many Saudi families spend the summer in London and the return flights at the end of the summer are always full.

Keep your head up during 1st week of September, you might see the 744!

Does anyone know how are the load factors on SV flights to Europe? (and to Italy?)...How many pax they have had on their flights in the last years?...and the last question is how is going the new flight to Prague?
Thanks
