DL ATL-JFK And CVG-JFK

Sun Jun 20, 2004 10:39 am

I noticed that Delta has a wide variety of planes flying the ATL-JFK route. Song flies the route once per day, there are two 763 flights, and five CRJ Delta Connection flights, most of which are fairly new. Are the 763 flights strictly for positioning, or is there really that much demand for the flights? It seems that the business travelers prefer LGA or EWR and Delta offers more flights between ATL and LGA. Does anyone know if the 763 flights to JFK actually go out full? I am sure part of the reason for using the 763s are to feed the European flights out of JFK, but there aren't too many routes that are served from JFK that aren't from ATL.

Also, does anyone know how the lone Song flight does? Again, I am assuming this is also for positioning more than anything...

There is also a similar situation CVG-JFK. There are two 763s operating the route, and two CRJs.

Are the ATL-JFK and CVG-JFK 763s the internationally configured 763s?

The way it has been explained here before concerning the Song flight is that it is mainly routed through for matience is one reason for the flight.

Since they are international 763s, I guess they must be flights for maintenance at ATL or CVG...

The mainline ATL-JFK (2 763ERs daily) and CVG-JFK (1 763ER and 1 Domestic 763 a day) flights have been packed this month and usually go out quite full. Seats to Europe are incredibly difficult to get this summer and with DL's use of mostly smaller 763ERs this summer to Europe, many pax. find themselves making a double connection (first in ATL or CVG, and then thru JFK) to get to Europe.

I have flown twice on DL 1992 flight from ATL to JFK the first was on a MD-11 plane that was heading to CDG, the second was on a B763 that was heading to BRU. Both flights were 100% full.

Over the years I have flown through out of JFK in the afternoon, all there flights are pretty full. The ATL run used to have to MD-11s and I think there used to be a 777 to MCO.
They have a good connecting ratio through JFK; so it works. As for the RJs, they added those flights to fill in the gaps in the old flight schedule. DL used to be pretty dead in the midday and morning at JFK--I take it that is not the case anymore.

Once flew BRU-JFK-CVG all on the same EXACT aircraft, just got off for customs and immigration. The captain on the JFK-CVG leg said that the plane was going on to CDG from CVG. So yes they are repositioning flights (all have flight numbers with 19**). And yes it was full that time and also from ATL-JFK once it was about 75% full. That plane was on its way to Venice. Pretty cool to see where these planes fly to.

I flew a DL 767-300 from JFK to FCO that operated a DL / KBDL), USA - Connecticut">BDL-JFK segment, then to FCO, then to ATL, and from ATL to JFK and back to Europe.

I don't know if it's my bad luck or an indication of overall loads, but I've tried to jumpseat three times on the 6:50 JFK-ATL Song flight, got on once (last seat though) and couldn't get a seat the other two times. I avoid that route now as the planes seem to be full (based on checking available seats on their web site) whenever I would like to connect through Atlanta.

I can all tell you something about me and I been flew out from JFK-VCE nonstop and came back from FCO to JFK on their way. This is one of very long flight back home to USA. I did make clear of customs & immigration and got make no problems with me at all. I did make connecting flight to FLL.
