Which Airliner Has Longest Wingspan?

Mon Jun 21, 2004 11:36 am

Basically what the topic says. What commercial airliner has the longest wingspan tip to tip? This does NOT include any military or converted freighter aircraft. My guess without doing research would be the 777-300 with the raked wingtips. However I do know some of the bigger airbuses have incredible spans as well so im sure its close.
Thanks

True.. The 225 has a larger wingspan than the A380.. Something like 30 feet..  Wow!

An-225: Wingspan 290 ft (88.4m),
A380: A380-800 Wing span 79.8m (261ft 10in),

Almost, but not quite, 30ft.

The An-225 does not have to squeeze into gates. The A380 has to fit in the 80mx80m box agreed upon by airports and airframers for passenger airliners.

The proposed A389 will have the same wingspan (the same wing, in fact) as the A388, but will be just about 80m long.

The 777-200LR/-300ER weigh in with 64.8m (212'7") spans. This just beats the 747-400's 64.44m (211'5") - although Boeing adds that when fully fuelled, the wingspan measures 64.92m (213'), because of the way the wing bends down.

Meanwhile, over at Airbus, the A340-600 has a span of 63.45m (208'2"). So Boeing just holds on to this one at the moment - though not for much longer obviously. These numbers make you think just how big the wing on the A380 is going to be - thats fully 15m more span than the 747-400/777-300ER.

Actually, about 7 metres more, not 15 metres,

79.8 - 64.8 = 15, does it not?

The 777-200LR/-300ER weigh in with 64.8m (212'7") spans. Where as the 747-400's wing span is 64.44m (211'5") - although Boeing adds that when fully fuelled, the wingspan measures 64.92m (213'), because of the way the wing bends down.

Th largest wingspan is without a doubt the mammoth Antonov AN-225, of which there is only one flying example operating in the world. The AN-225 MYRA or Dream has the largest wingspan. The Airbus A380 will be pushing the limits in that regard.
