A/c In "Day After Tomorrow"

Tue Jun 22, 2004 2:00 am

Sorry if this has been discussed, but... Did anyone notice the crashed aircraft in "Day After Tomorrow"? A photo was flashed on the screen of a newscast following the tornados in Los Angeles. The photo was clearly of the Avianca 707 that crashed on Long Island, New York, January 25, 1990, after running out of fuel while holding for JFK.

Kinda strange the movie producers didn't use something more recent or just create it on a computer. Guess they weren't counting on airplane nuts like us to notice it!

I was too focussed on the nonstop helicopter ride from Mexico to New York city and back. That movie was ridiculous in my opinion and I felt dumber for watching it. Cool effects though...

Just another example of Hollywood using stock footage to fill in the gaps. They don't expect people to really notice. I identified it immediately... I lived near NYC at the time.

Plus a plane crashing due to weather is not going to be in large pieces all in one place like the Avianca 707, which would have been able to make a gliding landing if the hill hadn't been there to stop it...

The movie itself was okay. I missed the part of the a/c in question. The movie was way too long. It kept repeating the same crap over and over after the snow started to fall. I was pretty bored.

So was it a 727 that they were actually flying in as pax? The wing shot looked like it.

Actually the airplane scene wasnt the only repeated footages.

A lot of the 'news reports' -- e.g. hurricane, waves breaking up, etc on the TV in the movie were real too.. like all the things combined together

The movie isnt good, but the message is clear. Think about it - over 3000 died in Europe alone last summer because of the heat. What's next?
