RE: Ticking Them Off The List!

Wed Feb 16, 2000 8:11 am

Anytime I fly, even - where feasible - if its on business - I try and tick a new type (or at least a new airline/type combination) off my list of "must fly" acft.

At the moment, I need the older A300B2/4s, the MD11 (most urgent), A319, DC8/707 (not much hope there), DC10-10/30 (done the -40), 737-6/700, DC9-10/20/40, MD87,A330/340-200 (both) and all Russian types.

HOWEVER!!! - on Thursday, I fly to Scandinavia and it looks as if I'll get the MD87, 737-600, DC9-41, DC9-21 and MD81. That'll whittle the list down a bit!

My first flight was on a TW DC-9-10 in January of 1970. Since then I have flown on the following aircraft and airlines (I'll be embarrassed if I've made any errors matching an airline with a type...I'm doing this all from memory!). Of course, some of the carriers noted no longer exist or they have merged with others.

L-1011-500 (DL)

You're envious? Look at the tremendous variety of "foreign-flag" carriers (foreign to me, anyway) you've flown. Plus, you've done all that in only ten years. Now I'm the green-eyed monster!

Since my first flight 10/82 (3 months old!) on a British Airways Trident I have been on the following aircraft:

Airbus
A300 (Malaysian Airline System - before it was merged and Air France)
A320 (Gulf Air)
A330-200 (Gulf Air)
A340-300 (Gulf Air)

Boeing
727-200 (TAP Air Portugal)
737-200 (British Airways, TAP Air Portugal)
737-400 (British Airways)
737-500 (British Midland)
747-100/200 (British Airways)
757-200 (British Airways)
767-300 (British Airways, Gulf Air and KLM)
777-200 (British Airways - Regn G-ZZZA, GZZZB, G-ZZZD, G-ZZZE - I might have been on G-ZZZC but I'm not sure!)

Lockheed
L-1011 (TAP Air Portugal, British Airways, Gulf Air.)

BAC
1-11 (Cyprus Airways)
Trident? (British Airways)

Fokker
F-27 (Malaysian Airline System)

The problem I have is that I fly on the same types ad nauseam - 8 times a year on BA 777s or GF A340/A330 and loads of BA shuttles which are always 757s!

Still not bad for age 17!!

A few corrections and my list:
TxAgKuwait, NW has never flown A300s. Probably an A320 that you were on.
TWA717-200: Cool! The Stratocruiser, Concorde, DC-3, and all the Tupolevs and Yakolevs. Impressive! (hope you see the sarcasm)
My list (all NW unless otherwise noted), also not as impressive as some:
A320-200
A321 (Lufthansa)
B727-200 (Braniff)
B727-200 (Delta)
B727-200
B737-200 (Aloha)
B747-200
B757-200
B767-200 (Delta)
C-130 (State of MN)
DC-9-10
DC-9-30 (Continental)
DC-9-30
DC-9-40
DC-9-50
DC-10-30
DC-10-40
MD-82
MD-88 (Delta)
Create your own luck.
