Hard Landing Video.. What Airline Is This?

Fri Jun 25, 2004 1:11 am

Is this a real video? If it is, I can't tell what airline this A318..or A319 is.
Can you?

If I'm not mistaken its a faked video for a commercial. There have been several threads on it in the last year. Video looks fake as hell to me, but as for the commercial part I'm going by what I remember from those threads.

I figured it was fake, but didn't they use an actual airline video (that was edited of course) of a plane landing or was that ALL computer imaging?

I would think that the front end bouncing was edited in by selecting the aircraft and moving the layer up and down along a timeline, maybe done in flash.

It looks as if the landing iteself is real, and edited. The original question, who knows what the airline is or was the livery made up, an edited version of the original?

It's for Heineken. Although it could have also come from Boeing.

One thing I noticed and could have mistaken... in the A319 Heineken advert...

The airbus appears to have IAE engines (and a BA World tail) at the end of it's landing roll... while most of the "funny" action was a CFM powered A319... I'm guessing old Swissair... *just guessing*

Plus, the shape of the tailfin looked during the "bounces"... Towards the end, there's a fraction of a second where the bouncing aircraft was blurred and the light levels on the aircraft changed slightly... I think this is when they "switched" the airplane... However, why, I dunno...

One thing for sure... it was damn funny !

That would not make sense. Would Boeing really want to advertise how much shit an A319 can take during landing and STILL not break?  Big grin

Guys, it was a MODEL!!! Not CGI!!! People build models of airplanes, using real jet engines (though much smaller than the ones used on the real aircraft), and fly them using remote controls. It's not uncommon for these aircraft to have rough landings of the type seen in the video. Anyone here who owns/flies these types of models can back me up on that.

The aircraft does not change engines, does not change liveries (barely has a livery, from what I can tell, just a sun-burst and some letters on the forward fuselage), and doesn't have anything close to the look of a CGI-ed video.

Been around for ages. Had me in hysterics the first time I saw it. It was an advert for Heniken around the time of the world cup (or may be the Euro championships??). The link above does show the heinikeen logo at the end, with the alleged pilot apologising to the Austrain football team for the landing and wishing them luck playing the dutch tonight!!

And it is very fake. If you look closely you can see the cut over from real world to fake on the aircraft.

Was that pilot the one who reported to maintenance that the auto-land feature did not work right, even though it was not installed on the aircraft?

Elwood64151:

I fly model airplanes, and I regret to say I can't back you up. Besides, it was shot at a real airport, and you can see clearly that the plane is of the correct scale. Just notice the size of the plane compared to the glideslope antenna. And it doesn't seem to behave as an R/C plane.

I can't tell how they made it because of the low video quality, but I think it was done how Ualonghaul mentioned in reply 5.

I sent a message to Heineken asking how they did it and I recommend more of you contact them too to be sure we get an answer.

So, what are you waiting for?!?!? I shouldn't have been the first one to ask!!!  Pissed

As mentioned above, it appears the actual landing was done using a model, or radio controlled aircraft. However, there is clearly a point at which the video transitions to a real Airbus on roll-out.

Plus, the shape of the tailfin looked during the "bounces"... Towards the end, there's a fraction of a second where the bouncing aircraft was blurred and the light levels on the aircraft changed slightly... I think this is when they "switched" the airplane...

That's exactly what I see. Also worth mentioning, during the hard landing, there is no beacon. After the transition mentioned above, the beacon is clearly visible.

you can also see the flaps on top of the wings (don't know what the heck they are called) suddenly pop up in a nanosecond when it transitions to real plane

Not only it is fake, but also it's an RC plane. They could have it more realistic by slowing the motion.
