The guys from Selfridge did a surprisingly good job with their F-16's, IMHO. They didn't get to do any fancy aerobatics, mostly making a bunch of passes along the flight line, but it was still cool. Their simulated A/R with the two KC
-135s was awesome too, providing a great photo opportunity.
"No Super Hornet or Cobra Ball, both of which were "confirmed" for appearances. This is two years in a row that no Super Hornet has shown up."
Super Bug must have broken down on the way.
"Both KC-135's that flew in the show had nose art but they were parked in areas not accessible to the general public and they were parked with their nose art facing away from the public so that no-one who pays the freight at these airshows had a chance to get any decent shots."
I'm sure the folks who paid the ~$200 fee for the Photo Tour got good shots though. It did seem like they were running out of ramp space because of the large number of heavies taking part, I don't see where else they could have put them, except the eastern half of 09/27, where they would be too far, but at least they wouldn't obstruct the view of the runway.
"The C-17 short take off and landing was hidden behind parked aircraft."
I was shooting from the rope at 09/27, you must have been farther south. I believe I got to see most of the T/O roll, except bits that were obstructed by the CC
-144 and this one speaker that was parked right in the middle of the cross wind runway (09/27)! It was very annoying b/c it was obstructing the view of aircraft taxiing by (ruined all my attempts to get a good full frame of the P-51D). I really think they could have put the speaker elsewhere.
All in all a great show! Definitely one of the best of recent years, only an appearance by the Blue Angels and/or the TBirds (and the B-1B!) would have made it better IMO.
