US Airways Pilots Offer To Cut Pay By 12.5 Pct

Sat Jun 26, 2004 12:13 pm

Full Story

WASHINGTON, June 25 (Reuters) - Pilots at US Airways ((UAIR.N)) are offering to take a 12.5 percent pay cut and work more hours through 2008 to help meet fresh cost-cutting targets at the carrier as it struggles to stay viable, the pilots union said on Friday.

Interesting....I think it's a safe bet that the US and the pilots will reach some sort of agreement.

The flight attendants, mechanics, and others are quite a different story, however.

This extra $1.5b should have been cut while in Ch. 11! Never leave anything on the table before emerging...US didn't heed that advice. Now, they find themselves in the situation they're in....and it may very well lead to another Ch. 11 to get the rest.

And the winner for best actress is....REESE WITHERSPOON for 'Walk the Line'!!!!!!!!

I find it interesting that from reading your linked article that US is wanting nearly as much from Mx as they are from the pilots.

Once the pilots at US take a hickey, that is going to pretty much leave DALPA out in the cold.
What we got here is a nasty situation.

That's a good point. It is going to have a bit of a ripple effect throughout other carriers with labor problems.

Yeah this pretty much makes DALPA's bargaining position untenable.

I think that IAM and CWA at US Airways will come around eventually. Historically these groups look to the pilots to take the first hit when it comes to concessions. I think you'll hear a little bit more of a conciliatory attitude from them next week.

I still am waiting to see what productivity improvements management has in store, especially on the ground service and maintenance side of the house.
