Why No Australian Charter Airlines?
Charter airlines seem to be evolving in Europe and America however there is no Australian charter airline. There are many destinations in the region such as New Zealand, Pacific Islands and Asia that could use charter services. Do you think that a charter airline could operate profitabily from Australia?

doing with Resource Companies, Flight Centre and the ADF
definitely.
But is there a market for a totally non scheduled airline?
If you could combine inbound ex USA and Japan and the
local market to prime destinations you may succeed. But
the yield on charter is low and the work seasonal.

The real difference is that, particularly in the UK and Europe, you will go to a travel agency and buy a holiday package through a tour operator. The tour operator will generally have a contract with an airline to carry their passengers.
In Australia and New Zealand, to my knowledge people are more willing to plan a holiday themselves (i.e. organise flights and accomodation separately). Where there are package deals, these are often sold through Qantas or Air New Zealand themselves.
That being said, Flight Centre in New Zealand had organised to charter an Airwork 737 for flights to Fiji, but the plan fell through when they ran into difficulties getting the requisite government approvals.
Basically the reason we don't see the number of charter operators here as opposed to Europe or to a lesser extent North America is because of differences in the market. Further with the prices being offered by Air New Zealand, Virgin, Air Pacific, among others, I doubt there would be any real need for a European charter type operator

It's all about market saturation. The Market is saturated already for our population. They wouldn't have bums on seats, which is the premise of a charter operator rather than the typical cargo. Also we're more likely to fly a scheduled airline for convenience rather than paying a bit less for the privilege of being crammed like a sardine in a plane that has no guarantees on departure times etc. ie: if they don't have enough pax they xxl the flight or merge with another one at a less convenient time.
