Q. On Slovak AIR. & Air Slovakia

Tue Jun 29, 2004 7:01 pm

Hi to you all!

I am just returned from a great LoCo-trip through europe on AB/HG/NE/DI.

Now I have some questions...

1. SLOVAK AIRLINES stated in their inflight magazine, that they will take over FOKKER 100- rumors also reported a B767! Any more information on this???

2.When I arrived at the airport, I found AIR SLOVAKIA's B737-200 OM-ERA in the SLOV AIR maintenace hangar! At the airport, I found out, that this day AIR SLOVAKIA operated with a huge delay! Now, I am wondering, if the A/C might be used on ad-hoc basis? The next morning, it was parked again on a remote position with covered engines! But this picture states: Not in service anymore! ANY idea??

1. Slovak Airlines (6Q) had acquired B767-200, ex-TWA N606TW. It arrived in BTS this morning in all white c/s. F-100 has been postponed until September, at least.

2. B737-200 OM-ERA in question had been sitting idle at the airport for over a year, while the airline used their B737-230Adv (HK) OM-RAN and B757-200 OM-DGK for their scheduled and charter services. OM-ERA has been sold to Aero Afrique and had departed BTS as 3D-BGA last Friday (June 25th).

The information on the 762 employment is rather vague for now but the plan was to fly it regularly from India via BTS to Canada. Montreal, I think. The 767 needs to painted into full Slovak c/s and the registration will be OM-NSH.

Actually OM-ERA had been parked near that Slov-Air hangar (near the derelict 707) for over a year. It had only been moved in front of a terminal building few days before it left for good for Africa.

6Q has applied and received both slots and rights to operate from Bratislava to Ahmedabad and Amritsar in India. Whether it actually happens remains to be seen, but the ducks are all in line on the India side.

Air Slovakia already operates to India with one weekly flight to Amritsar using B757-200 aircraft. Slovakia has been granted permission to operate 5/7 Bratislava/Amritsar/Bratislava and 3/7 Bratislava/Delhi/Bratislava. Air Slovakia has currently filed for fresh slots and increased frequencies of 3/7 (to start with to ATQ) and 1/7 to DEL. The problem with the latter service (from their viewpoint) is that apart from the tremendous competition they would face in DEL, they will have to pay AI USD52 per pax for each pax they uplift from DEL. They have been on the look out for a second B757 and have apparently finalized an aircraft recently.

6Q has in the meantime opted to fly charters out of India and have secured some clearances from the authorities for the same.

Vimanav: The second B757-200 for Air Slovakia is confirmed, in fact it is supposedly being prepared for delivery as we speak. I wonder if it make sense for GM to operate flights out of DEL providing the rather heavy fee per each pax they must pay to AI. Is that some type of government protection of the national carrier ?

Just a way to extract their pound of flesh. Personally I do not agree with this policy and feel that if at all such a levy has to be collected from foreign airlines, it should be spent in developing aviation/airport infrastructure in India rather than hand it on a platter to either national carrier.

P.S. Any idea who GM is getting the second aircraft from?

Not sure about the origin of the second 752 for GM, but here is a pic of the new 762 for 6Q.

I do not understand the comment regarding Midland Air, I don't think BMI would be too happy about that !
