Gatwick Airbridge

Wed Jun 30, 2004 12:19 am

I received a mailshot from Gatwick Airport this week which had details of the new airbridge. It looks amazing, and seems like the ideal place for viewing. My only question is, will the A380 fit under it as it is 32m high? The 747 in the photo's look tight!
How about renaming it the vaseline bridge?

Hi

No an A380 won't fit under it...I guess to make it compatible for 380s would have involved a lot of extra expense for something that may never be required.

It would be good for viewing except that it will only be available to North Terminal passengers who are departing from the former remote gates, so not accessible to anyone landside  Sad Any idea when it's due to open?

Cheers

Due to open? According to the press release linked on the page, spring 2005.

Interesting to have one at MAN for the T2 remote stands. I seem to remember that originally there were thoughts of a remote terminal. Maybe the money ran out or a terminal with air bridges would have been too restrictive for parking.
