AUS Gone Regional?

I always plane spot at AUS which is Austin Bergstrom INTL airport and I was wondering why AUS has gone so regional with mostly express airliners like ASA,Delta Connection,Continental Express and so on. I miss all those 757's and big airplanes what happened to them and why do we get so many 732's here at AUS?

AUS is within the short-range "shadow" of AA/CO hubs at DFW/IAH, respectively, so that explains the RJs...

As far as the 737-200s go, they don't have the long-range performance that other 737 variants have, thus airlines that still operate the -200s run them into AUS from short-range and mid-range points. The "new" AUS has much better aircraft performance than the the old Mueller location (especially when they were using 31L), so the new AUS airport is a good fit for the older aircraft.

You should be seeing steadily fewer SWA 737-200s, since they are being retired. There should only be 5 or 6 in the fleet by the end of this year, and the remainder should be gone during the first quarter of 2005.

CO still sends lots of Boeings to AUS .... Including at least one 757.
Working very hard to Fly Right....

Trans Meridian always seems to have a 757 parked at AUS, they must have several flights per day. CO still has a 757 on a late night arrival/early morning departure and I see AA 757's here occasionally. However, you are correct, there has been a huge increase in the number of RJ's since 2002. When I first moved here during that year, RJ's were actually pretty rare at AUS.....now it seems that every other flight a CRJ, ERJ, or Avro. This has probably happened everywhere across the country since 911, but I'm guessing that there was a particular need to downsize capacity in AUS after the tech bubble burst in the early 2000's.

We get a lot of WN 732's southwest only uses them on intra-texas routes and I guess ATL-AUS is just one of the routes delta likes to use the 732 on.

AA flies 13 flights a day from DFW to AUS - NONE of them are RJs.

CO sends a 753 to AUS, that's not too shabby. Also a good number of 738's. AA has ended the 757 service on the DFW route. All M80's now. Back in the day they ran DC10's up to DFW a couple of times per day. Delta is still mostly 732/M88 from what I can tell.

KAUS pilot i saw a TransMeridian 757 once there in mid afternoon once and i never new CO had 757's come in.And yeah I kno all of AA's planes at AUS are mostly MD-80's.

Also I think the reason for mostly 732's and MD-80's is the noise level law because AUS isnt in the middle of the city like the ol airport.
