Emery-What Airline Would Operate A DC-8 For Them?

Wed Jun 30, 2004 1:15 pm

Gents, We have just been advised at work that instead of the usual Emery (Menlo) 727 here in Calgary, we are getting a DC-8 on friday and saturday.

What airline operates a DC-8 for Emery (Menlo)?
Routing is HDY-YYC-PDX-SEA and vice versa for saturday. And since i will be working this flight, im curious to know what aircraft i can expect to work on.

Thanks a bunch.

Do you mean Emery as in the cargo company?? maybe it will be an Arrow Air DC-8 flying the route for them, or possibly Evergreen if they still have any DC-8's left

If you are talking DC-8s I think you would be limited to Arrow Air, ATI or Murray Air or Astar. I don't think Airborne/DHL or UPS charters out their aircraft. Please let us know what shows up.

Yep.....it's Arrow Air flying DC-8's for Menlo(formerly Emery).

You will always see at least one World DC-10 on the Emery ramp......while an MD-11 is a usual visitor as well(it does the daily Dayton-Brussels run).

Just for fun, there are a couple of Emery/Menlo DC-8Fs sitting on the cargo ramp here in ATL. I don't think they have moved since Emery ceased flying themselves.

I haven't seen Gemini here in DAY since immediately after Emery ceased flight operations.

Express.net handles the flying contracts for Emery from what I understand. So here in DAY we get Express.net A300B4-200's and 727-200's. Also there is always at least one World DC-10 sitting on the ramp(from what I hear DAY has cheaper parking fees than JFK). World flies daily between DAY-BRU with an MD-11, while the DC-10's are used for west coast runs I believe. Arrow Air DC-8's are a frequent visitor as well. I heard Ryan International's contract was up this month and Menlo was evaluating it.....but still many Ryan 727's are doing the runs. Laslty.......we'll see Kitty Hawk 727's every now and then.

Hope this gives some insight!

Emery used to operate a lot of Diesel 8's until a lot of them were grounded.

The only DC-8s that are @ ATL on a regular basis are the following:

ABX Air
ATI
UPS

Every once in awhile, an Astar/DHL DC-8F maybe be @ ATL as a sub for the usual 727 flight.

The only a/c in the colors of Emery that I've seen @ ATL are the Ryan Int'l 727s that are still painted in Emery colors (they do some Menlo flights). The Emery DC-8Fs have been gone from the cargo ramp for several years now. They did sit out @ ATL for about 6 months before getting approval by the FAA to ferry them to IGM.

Thanks for the replys..
Just to clarify whats up with Ryan intl and the 727s...
Ryan never accually owned the aircraft, emery or Menlo as they are now called owns them and Ryan just operated them. The contract accually expired last month, and since then the 727s are now being operated by custom air transport.

Ill let you guys know how the flights go.. thanks again
