Questions On Qantas B747-300 And A330-300!

Wed Jun 30, 2004 3:41 pm

I have some questions for our Qantas experts:

1. Will the two stored B747-300 (VH-EBV and -EBW) return to service? If yes, when?
2. Has the first 'longhaul'-A330 (VH-QPD) already been delivered to Qantas? And will all remaining A330-300 (incl. VH-QPD) be the new -303X versions? I have heard different stories on that issue.

Thanks a lot and greetings to Down Under!
Regards
Udo

Can answer the first question.

The 2 743's will return to service EBV is I believe currently being prepared to return to service in September and is currently in the hanger at AVV. EBW I believe will follow and is due back in service in early 2005.

As to the A330 situation I can't help you there sorry.

With the A330's VH-QPD as you know iare being fitted with the more powerful engines it has been fitted in international style already, although it will not be delivered until Novermber due to the testing of these engines. (Source:Australian Aviation) QPE,QPF,QPG as will all be in Service by end of July will be delivered in international configuration but have the same engine types as QPA-QPC currently in service. However QPA-QPG except of QPD could always be reconfigured at a later date. IMO I assume the last two to be delivered in 2005 (QPH,QPI) will feature the larger more poweful engine as QPD.

With the QF743's VH-EBV and -EBW they will return to service (Source of Australian Aviation has said August 2004 and March 2005 respectively). Although I suspect this may have changed, and when it returns to service I would assume it will return in their updated cabin configuration.

Udo,

VH-QPF landed at Tullamarine Wednesday 23rd. It went on line
yesterday and will operate domestically until the 10th of August,
when the A330 is scheduled to operate MEL HKG BNE HKG MEL
rotations, postponed from the 15th of July.

VH-QPE is due this week and they will operate in a 30JCL
config with the JCL galley relocating to doors 2 from doors 1.

JCL and YCL will have seat back entertainment and the A330-300
will eventually operate from several Australian cities to Singapore,
Hong Kong and Japan (destination to be confirmed). Shanghai to
come online 1 December, 2004.

"QPE,QPF,QPG as will all be in Service by end of July will be delivered in international configuration but have the same engine types as QPA-QPC currently in service."

According to our documentation VH-QPF is an A330-303 fitted with 68,530lbs CF6-80E1A3s, not A2s like the -201/301s.

thanks AJ for the info on that i just went by the info from Australian aviation. Is there any reason why QPD although constructed in January will not be delivered until Novermber as it also was built with the more powerful E1A3's. They said it was for testing, but 10 months as QPE QPF were not tested for that long.
