Order For 50+50 FF-1080 Near

Thu Jul 01, 2004 1:43 am

Taken from atwonline:

"America Utilicraft Corp. signed a letter of intent with Global Air Group for 50 aircraft plus 50 options in an order valued at $1.2 billion. Officials from both companies expect the agreement and financing arrangements to be finalized within the next 60 days. Global Air Group, based in Brisbane, operates and wet-leases 747 passenger and freighter aircraft. American Utilicraft, based in Lawrenceville, Ga., developed the FF-1080, which can carry containerized cargo, as a short-haul feeder aircraft for overnight express operations."

May I ask what the FF1080 is? Is that by any chance the new Fokkers?

No, it isn´t the new Fokker. This is a prop-driven plane speciafically build to carry cargo. It is able to carry containers, and plays in about the same category as the Cessna Caravan. However, it is faster and the containerization allows for easier and faster handling. Fedex once had ordered quiet a chunck of them, however during a restructuring process within FX this order was cancelled AFAIK.

Evidently, you didn't read the first post in this thread fully, as the manufacturer, American Uliticraft was mentioned in it. American Utilicraft is based in Lawrenceville, GA close to LZU.

The a/c looks like a Shorts mated with a Do 228.

Looks more like an ATR than anything I could describe, high wing, large front cargo/baggage door, Hamilton props.

I would say they started with the cargo area of the fuselage and started attaching wings above, MLG & fuel tanks below, empennage aft, and cockpit in front.
Visually sort of makes the wings look far aft to stay with the CG of the cargo section.

I'm not sure what to make of this bird. On one hand it is kind of wierd looking and on the other it looks pretty cool. I hope to see them flying around!

Thanks for the link Srbmod

Scouted around the link some more. Electro-Expulsive Anti-ice, Electric Flaps, looks like the "electric airplane" is starting to trickle down to smaller aircraft.
