New NBC Show "lax"

Thu Jul 01, 2004 7:52 am

http://www.nbc.com/nbc/Primetime_Preview_04_05/new_shows.shtml#lax

Looks interesting to me, may not be anywhere's near as in depth for us plane nuts but any show about an airport is good enough for me! Any thoughts? -Matt in KITH

Frankly I like to get to LAX a little early, find a comfy seat, and watch the people myself. Dont need Heather Locklear for that! :P

I dont know- i hope it isnt cheesy. But its on NBC so its guaranteed to be :/

Heather Locklear has been known to "save" shows...see Melrose Place and Spin City, both of which were in danger of cancellation. Her track record for being in a show from the start isn't that great though...I think.

Also, wasn't this show supposed to be called The Hub, or was that something else?

Security breaches, terrorist threats, illegal immigrants, missing children, drug busts

You'd think MIA would be the first choice for this sorta focus... guess the construction made that option too difficult.

It will probably be Melrose Place meets Spin City at LAX. Richard Kind as a Nuclear terrorist, Charlie Sheen as the mayor of Magaritaville. I'm sure somebody out there has a big 'ol pizza you could lay under it 'cause it sounds cheesy.  Big grin

Too bad you missed the thread on this topic about a month ago. I wrote a hypothetical "first episode", I hope it was not a Sunday. I'll probably burn in hell, anyway.

I am looking forward to it. (The first episode, not burning in hell).

Judging by the preview on NBC's Web site, it's a far cry from Arthur Hailey...

It sounds something like Fran Drescher in the lead in CATS or better yet, EVITA. Yeah, I'm going to burn in hell for that!  Big grin

I've noticed NBC has now been saying "LAX" will be Monday nights at 10pm EST. Hopefully A&E's Airline will be in reruns during that time. But being the new fall season could Airline be in season 3?

I doubt this show will last long, as is the problem for almost any other drama or for that matter any show put on TV in the USA anymore. I don't think it will be entertaining enough for many and will make those who are interested in airlines groan with pain over contrived and inaccurate scripts. I also fear that any storylines involving terror or security threats will not be appreciated and lose viewers, and if they get too much like soap operas, then lose another part of a potential audience. Worse still would be if another 9/11 leval of terror attack was to occur, it would probably end the show immediately. A program about LAX could succede if done as a 'reality' show, with a limited run, like Airline on A&E network (or like UK's Airport, although I haven't see any of that program).

>>>Any thoughts?

Yes...

Given that fact that NBC has it on Monday's schedule, it would seem a rather obvious attempt to "capture" A&E viewers with a clone program with the photogenic Ms. Locklear as the bait.

You can bet that they will use every bit of dramatic license they can to make the stories "work" and that factual accuracy (as always) will be forgotten, thus further perpetuating all the misconceptions that the traveling public seems to embrace, and often takes as fact. (Whaddya mean I can't take 12 carry-ons onboard--I saw someone do it on "LAX" last week, so why can I?...)  Insane

I give it 10 episodes...before it gets whacked...

Okay. My episode two senario:

Superbowl 30something is being played aboard an A380. The plane is hijacked, of course, and the terrorists threaten to deliver the plane to Boeing if their demands are not met. They want twenty dollars, US. Airbus refuses to pay, claiming the plane is not wort it. Heather Locklear saves the day when she pulls up her skirt and pulls a twenty out of her stocking. What the hijackers do not know is that the twenty is counterfit.

The Giants go on to beat the Jets 2-0. Sort of makes you wish nobody paid the twenty dollars.

I'll watch it a few times I'm sure, but it's probably going to end up being yet another piece of garbage reality tv show on NBC.

Seriously, that's all that channel is these days....reality TV. NBC sold out big time and I frankly have a hard time watching it anymore. LAX may give even the airport a bad name. I guess we'll see. But i don't have my hopes up.

Likewise they are supposed to be doing this new "Hawaii" series, and it too, will probably be a far cry from the likes of Hawaii 5-O and Magnum, P.I.

Monday at 10 pm will be a sudden death slot against CBS' CSI Miami, which is already well established. That's in addition to Monday Night Football's loyal audience. Why not put it in a slot where it might have a chance to develop into something really enjoyable? I like the idea of a show about airports but the writers will be more concerned about who is bedding whom rather than real airport stories. Heather won't be able to save this one. I give it four shows until the plug is pulled.

I'll be turning the channel the minute the show switches from being about an airport to being about someone's sexual fantasy.

Jesus I am tired of reality TV.

Be sure to see episode number three. Heather and I are on vacation and do loops in a Piper Cub.
