Sun Jul 04, 2004 4:25 am

I searched around and came up with nothing in the forum so maybe some one can help me out. Does any body know what happen to Air Europe. I try to go on to there web site and it redirects me to Volare Airlines web site. Any one know what's going on? Give it a try and tell me what you think.  Big thumbs up

It has been completely taken over I heard... with Air Europe now being put as Volareweb. From some ex Air Europe people I heard it was a mess... Air Europe Cabin Crew joining for the long haul ops have been retrained to fly on Volareweb... short haul. Few were taken by Volare for the long haul charter, under new contracts. Air Europe's crew were put to Volareweb until their contracts expire.

I think some of the 767s are still in Air Europe colours, but operating in Volare numbers and Volare crew (not even "Air Europe Crew"). But this has been going on for over a year regarding the 767 ops. After the 777s went, so did Air Europe.

I wonder too, anyone got the right details?

When losing situational awareness, pray Cumulus Granitus isn't nearby !

Didnt Air Europe have some type of agreement with CO?
I recently flew Volareweb LTN-CAG and was hoping the agreement was still in place so as to receive CO miles......But, all ground staff at LTN was contracted out(didn't know a thing), and the flightcrew barely spoke English, so I left it alone...

Stirling, Volareweb is a LoCo carrier. No agreement with other airlines.

Just some info on Air Europe Italy.

They were bought by Volare in 1999. The 2 B772 left the fleet in 2001. The 4 B763 were reduced to 1. In the mean time Volare introduced 6 A332 in Volare livery, with Volare crew, but they kept the Air Europe flight code PE, mainly to keep the rights for long haul scheduled flights.

Then Volare after 11/09 found their A332s due to the change in the market, had a too high leasing rate. So 4 A332 left the fleet and they took 2 B763.
The long haul fleet now are 2 A332s (Volare livery), 1 B763 Air Europe livery and 2 B763 white with Volare title.
All the long haul flights still use PE flight code and a small Air Europe sticker on the livery. Flight crew are all Volare Airlines employees.

Air Europe now uses only 1 A320 with own crew for flights out the slots restricted airport of Milan LIN. So thanks to the PE code Volareweb (the LoCo division) could offer the double number of flights out of LIN.

There was another Air Europe, originally a British Charter Carrier owned by Harry Goodman's Instasun (spelling?) tour operating group in the 1980s to early 1990s. They were a unique airline that took the standards of charter flights up to a higher level. Originally, they had a fleet of 737s operating to European sunspots from Gatwick, Manchester and other regional airports. The fleet expanded with 757s serving the higher density routes and I believe the airline did have two 747s on order.

Following the demise of British Caledonian and Dan-Air, Air Europe expanded into the schedule market eventually serving 18 destinations from London Gatwick including the lucrative London Gatwick-Paris route. They advertised, "You still have a choice" following on from British Caledonian's advertising slogan "We never forget that you have a choice".

Air Europa was the Spanish associate of the company with Instasun owning part of the share capital.

It was exceptionally difficult to get seats on Air Europe's charter flights if you did not book a complete tour package with them. I had the fortune to fly them twice from London Gatwick to Palma de Mallorca. At that time they were the British "expats" living in Majorca "home" airline – BA did not then have any flights to Palma (or any other Balearic Islands). The standards of service and catering were high and the planes looked brand new inside and out. As regards their schedule operation, I have no idea how they fared but it did seem the airline was on track to become competition to BA, particularly at London Gatwick and on European short-haul routes. Just as quickly as they appeared, the airline collapsed under heavy debts and folded in the late 1980s (or early 1990s).

Air Europa continued as a separate entity unaffected by the demise of the British Company, and continues to this day as a major Spanish Carrier. I think that the "Air Europe" title was then adopted by another enterprise and this is the Air Europe and Volare Airlines of Italy.

All this is from memory and if someone knows exact dates or knows the number of aircraft that Harry Goodman's Air Europe had, I wait to be corrected.
