American Eagle is hiring, but American Airlines is firing. Not a big deal.

I'd rather have it stay the way it is. Eagle is adding staff but American is cutting it completely. It's not a good thing.

I find little joy in your post...long term AA employees loosing their jobs to Eagle is nothing to be excited about.

I guess the silver lining with this, is that even with American pulling out, at least American Eagle will be taking over some of the flights and creating new jobs. Still, I wish it wouldn't have to be this way, but it must be for the good of the company.

They probably have to hire the American workers first that were laid off at a significantly lower rate, so they really aren't creating new jobs, and probably need less people since ERJs are smaller than mainline MD-80s

Actually, in past instances, AA employees laid off at desinations where AA has gotten out completely and an all eagle force been brought in, have actually had to train their replacements before being laid off. AA employees are paid considerably more than Eagle workers, so the chance of AA employees getting rehired by Eagle is slim in some cases.

This is nothing but WalMartization of the airline industry. For crying out loud, focus on the QUALITY of the jobs being created, not the quantity. !!!

so the chance of AA employees getting rehired by Eagle is slim in some cases.

Well, AA employees will have their wages adjusted to that of AE if they choose to apply to work at AE.

The only thing I'm not 100% sure on is that if these current AA folks apply fresh to AE, will they be at the bottom of the AE senoirty list. I had a good friend transfer from AA to AE and she retained her senority, but pay was adjusted to AE scale (she lost about $1.50/hour). Hopefully they will be able to retain some senority (CLE is a senoir ranking station).

The current AA'ers probably already decided what they wanted to do. When I was notified of my furlough, I had only had a week to choose my fate by opting to compete for a transfer (AUS, BWI, HNL, OAK) or take a furlough.

Whomever decided to transfer with senority can bump other agents in the system, however, after they have taken furlough status, they cannot bump, but rather they can transfer to an open city.

Currently: DFW (L42-Cargo) and IAD (L42-CSA) are open for transfer requests. More recent openings were MSP (L42-CSA) and JFK (L40-PSA).

I experienced the same scenario with NW when the Mesaba Air Link people were brought in to replace us at our station. NW actually assumed we would be more than willing to train them. Huh? "This is a JOKE, right?" Dressed-up like us, writing tickets on our stock, using our equipment, etc., yadda-yadda-yadda..... Bahadir, actually the Walmartinization began in the early nineties and is only increasing in scope. I'm just glad I got the Hell out of the industry I onced loved. Not that it matters, but pigs will fly before I FLY on an Eagle sled to MIA, ORD or ANYWHERE AA flies to out of CLE.
