Will Etihad's Plans Be A Blow To The A380?

Sun Jul 04, 2004 11:59 pm

Etihad is the new airline from the UAE which has Abu Dhabi (AUH) as its hub. The airline has a similar plan to that of Emirates and is planning rapid expansion and reports say that they plan to have around 50 large jets by 2008. The airline currently operates 2 A330s, a A340-300 and a 767-300 and is to anounce a large order of widebodies, either the A330/340 or the 777.

Abu Dhabi is closely located to Dubai (EK's hub) and is planning to serve a similar market with a similar plan. I think, they will be stealing some of EK's pax in the future, which is so far, the largest customer of the A380.

What do you think? Will EK be hurt by Etihad thus affecting their A380 order?

It could also mean that Ethiad will have to purchase some A380s to be competitive. Emirates might introduce some low fares for flights on their A380s.
