Isn't his family already in possession of the majority of the shares?

It's still even more thatn I thougth. I didn't think it was that bad I must admit. I have always had a feeling that the LCC's had some glory days. But that only shows that the Majors are breathing them in their necks.

Yeah, the shares have been beaten up big time.
But if they have the capital, and that is a huge question,
going private, gives you much more power as a operator.
But if you don't have the capital, then you are very restricted
for expansion in every sector of the industry.

The family seem to be very resourceful and if they consider the shares cheap, then it may be possible.

Stelios has the financing for the deal.

He also has considerable personal wealth, including the Stelmar tanker business which (it is reported) he has been made a very good offer for.

The shares were depressed in the fallout from things such as 9/11, and haven't recovered properly due to profit warnings and falling passenger numbers. However Easyjet is still making money, and the costs of fleet reorganisation have been an issue which won't stay around forever.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find my own way there...

In a follow-up-
When speaking in California,in the
70's and 80's,I was hoping PSA and
AirCal,would go private.Merger Mania
was starting to take effect.Since they
held good traffic, and good modern fleets,
they both might avoid the mergers and just wait it out.

This seems what is now happening in Europe
aviation,and possible start of merger-mania.
