Good Lord, take it easy. I am sure if Virgin prematurely announced a route without approval PM Howard will have Richard Branson shot and left for dead in the Outback.

BTW, I thought it had been announced previously in the columns too. I realize these boards are not official, but they certainly are the next best thing.
Keep on truckin'...

The Thread Title says it all about most of what we hear about VS!

However, there are those who enjoy discussing such vagaries, so doubtless we'll continue to receive such messages.

There is nothing misleading about this at all, VS does have all the approvals to operate LHR-HKG-SYD-HKG-LHR using the Airbus.

 Big thumbs up

Either way, plenty of airlines offer routes "subject to government approval".

GEEEES, why don't you do some research first and then what you say will be correct Smile

VS HAVE GOT FULL PERMISSION TO FLY FROM SYD. Here is their Press Release announcing the start date of their new service. It even says that Australia are pleased that VS will be flying to Australia!!!.
Here is the press release
http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/press_release.view.do?press_id=2137

The first flight starts on the 8th December 2004

All services will be operated by 306-seat Airbus A340-600 aircraft with a configuration of 45 Upper Class Suites, 28 Premium Economy and 233 Economy seats.

Details of Virgin Atlantic’s introductory promotional offers will be announced later this year, and tickets will go on sale for the new services at the same time.

Here is the link to the Sydney Airport Media Centre Press Release on the new flights
http://www.sydneyairportmedia.com/upload/Sydney_Airport_welcomes_Virgin_Atlantic_announcement.pdf

So I will repeat it again......
VS HAVE GOT FULL PERMISSION TO FLY FRM SYD Smile

Edit: to include the link to the Sydney Airport News Release

Is it just me or can VS NEVER do anything right in some people's mind, first it's the service, then it's the upcoming aircraft deal and now it's the "oh my god, they can't offer this service until after they have received GOVERNMENTAL APPROVAL" when in fact they have and from 3 countries to start the route!"

I checked the link provided by 777ER and there is NO mention of "SUBJECT TO GOVERNMENTAL APPROVAL" in it, in fact it actually praises the Australian Minister of Tourism for making it happen.

So I say best of luck to VS on this route, having been allowed it "FAIR AND SQUARE", let's hope it's the first of a few to the Oceanic region.  Big thumbs up

And to those who seem to want to knock VS for the hell of it, they have been here for 20 years, so I think they might be around for a while yet! , here's hoping anyhow.

VS4ever and ever (frustrated and annoyed, can you tell?)

I am brand new as a member with a.net and have seen ALOT of Virgin bashing! My first international flight was on a Virgin 340-300 out of JNB over London to MCO and what an experience that was. They are my favorite for sure and I keep an eye out (from my front door!) for the silver 744's coming in to MCO every afternoon.

I am pretty sure it is still Subject to Government Approval! This was discussed last week in a seperate thread and we had the LINK from CX on this CLEARLY stating that VS does not have HK approval! The press release was premature!

I am NOT trying to BASH VS (in fact I really like them and think they are real innovators in product offerings) But it is just MISLEADING when posting PRESS RELEASE up without stating the conditions!

"Either way, plenty of airlines offer routes "subject to government approval".

Well those airlines do SAY it is Subject to government approval.

All I am trying to say here is that VS does not have full GOVERNMENT APPROVAL yet, and I am actually interested in how this is coming along!

i know CX have not received the approval yet. for LHR-JFK

If VS did not have full permission to operate flights out of SYD then the Sydney Airport Media Centre would NOT announce the new flights also. When an Airline is annoucing a new route and they dont have full permission yet then they have to say in the press release "Subject to Government Approval". Why don't you read if you have not already the two press releases that I provided in reply 8 and you find "Subject to Government Approval" in it.

Can someone who POINTED out to me in an EARLIER POST re: the Subject to Government Approval.

I just want to know what happened to CX's LHR-JFK.

I think VS got approval for the AUS government but not HKG yet as CX still haven't received the approval for LHR-JFK

VS are selling tickets now on their web-site for LHR-HKG-SYD (but only Y class on sale currently), so it seems the route is going ahead.

There was an article in the London Financial Times about a month ago concerning CX, and its plans for a bigger lounge at LHR and the extra staff it is recruiting ready for the LHR-JFK service.

CX have not yet said when this will commence though, and I do not think they have purchased the necassary slots at LHR to operate the route yet. If they want them, then they must buy them, just as VS and QF recently did.

Rich.

Hi

When a route is subject to approval it brings up a remark in the CRS to say this so that you can advise the pax. I have just checked in Galileo and there is no note about that, but it does have change of aircraft at HKG.

1. VS 200 Y 10JAN LHRSYD HS1 2130 *0710 O MO< ³
³DEPARTS LHR TERMINAL 3 - ARRIVES SYD TERMINAL 1< ³
³PLANE CHANGE AT HKG< ³
³** FLIGHT DEPARTS LHR TERMINAL 3 * ARRIVES SYD INTL AIRPORT **< ³
³*** PLS ENSURE DESTINATION CONTACT TEL NOS ARE IN EVERY BKG ***<³
³OFFER CAR/HOTEL >CAL >HOA <

Amadeus does not have this so I guess the change of aircraft thing is incorret.

Cx123, probably worth remembering not to believe everything you read on a.net as gospel. Plenty of people on here like taking a shot at anything remotely connected with Branson, so just because they say something with convincing argument, it doesn't make it true. Equally, just because another airline says something about VS, that doesn't make it true either.

Branson has got his approval. Coincidentally I was at the company 'do' where he announced "we have got the piece of paper that let's us fly to Sydney" to staff 4 days before the official release.

It is really strange because you can book only Y Class on the UK site for LHR-SYD.

Also I heard that they CANNOT sell HKG-SYD or SYD-HKG yet. So i am thinking maybe they are only allowed to do LHR-SYD (and not pickup pax from HKG-SYD vv) and use HKG as a refuel stop only (until they get Final HKG Approval)

Dont know why they keeping "Atlantic" now when they are going global!!

Cathay Pacific stays Cathay Pacific, Virgin Atlantic should stay Virgin Atlantic!

why re-brand - the names great!
