Wed Jul 07, 2004 12:31 am

I know that TG, Is going to start NYC-BKK in the future. There is something about this in the latest, airline news column. Are they pushing the date forward?

well if you know TG, nothing is reliable until the they actually fly the route. so my best guess is they will start when they get new A340-500 next year

JFK and ORD are both confirmed, ORD service is to start in the middle of 2005.
You got to be careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there.

Leo777,
Don't believe press releases. There is no way TG will still start mid 2005. They don't have the sales infrastructure yet. They fired all the sales staff and closed all their sales offices except one pathetic office in Los Angeles, run by political lackeys. The folks in that office couldn't even find JFK or ORD on a map, let alone prepare for flight operations a year from now. Unless TG completely overhauls its North American sales organization, they will not be able to start service anytime soon. Keep in mind that these same bright sparks are the ones that cut LAX frequency down from daily to only 4 days a week. Why? they were forced to. All the sales staff that would normally go out and generate corporate and leisure business were let go. At the moment, TG is relying 100% on the travel needs of the ethnic Thai community in LAX to keep their 4 frequencies going. TG redefines the word incompetence.
It's been swell, but the swelling has gone down.

There are insufficient frames on order to serve all those routes nonstop. I believe they have 2 A340-500s and 3 A340-600s, although it could be the other way around. Either way, its not quite enough.

Last time I checked, they were planning on running 744s BKK-AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA-JFK. I might be mistaken with AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA, but it was definitly via some European city.

TG have on order 3 A340-500's and 5 A340-600's!

I also heard they planned to start by flying via AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA with 744's, then going non-stop with the 345 later when they arrive.

Also I don't remember hearing about these routes being confirmed.

Wooo! Aha! <<<>>>>

I totally agree with you. We are also talking about the same airline which charges AUD7000 First Class SYD/LHR. Qantas/BA/SIA's prices are around AUD8000 for Business Class. However, in the opposition you get beds, fantastic lounges and IFE!
