New Virgin 747s

Fri Feb 18, 2000 11:01 am

I see that the Virgin fleet has expanded according to the Virgin site - more 200s. Anyone know where they came from? Checked Bob Birds website but they haven't yet appeared there.

Some of them came from Air New Zealand. Some are already there, 2 more to come. I can't remeber their regs, but if you look at Bob's home page and go to the notes on Air New Zealands 747-200's you will see it. It is really good to see a great airline like Virgin growing. Keep it going Sir Richard. You do a great job.

JumboTim
This is the info. which I have at the moment
Ex Z-KNZY is now G-VPUF with Virgin
Ex Z-KNZW is now G-VZZZ
Ex Z-KNZX is now G-VSSS

Not all of these may have been delivered yet, but they will be very shortly from Air NZ

Just another mention is that G-VMIA the only B747-100 in the Virgin fleet has been withdrawn is going to be broken up soon

Virgin Atlantic has acquired 7 747-200s from two different airlines. 2 747-200s came from Cathay Pacific and are now registered G-VRUM and G-VCAT. 5 are to come from Air New Zealand three have already arrived. The 5 747-200s from Down Under will or are already registered G-VSSS, G-VBEE, G-VZZZ, G-VIBE and G-VPUF. Supposedly they are looking to acquire 2 more 747-200s. Possibly 2 that Qantas may be putting up 747-200s.

Whose engines are on these 747-200s, P&W, GE, or RR?

I'm pretty sure NZ's 742's have RR engines.
