Another BW Aircraft Hit.

Thu Jul 08, 2004 9:59 pm

I know some guys say this happens all the time in the US, but for an airline with 9 jets, two just cannot be down for the same thing in a month. This is ridiculous.

Dock the drivers pay for the repair cost. That ought to get them thinking a little more on the ramp.

According to someone on the CaribALPA site, its -TGN (the green 340) thats been hit.  Sad

Relatedly BW is wet -leasing a Falcon Air 727 as a sub for a 738.

"According to someone on the CaribALPA site, its -TGN (the green 340) thats been hit."

Correction: 9Y-TJN.

TGN is the retired L10 that's (supposedly) going to be on display at the aviation museum... or whatever the hell it's being called.

If I seem annoyed it's because I am. This is asinine. I've been told a DASH-8 was damaged last month. So, four damaged aircraft in just over a month. I won't even bother to include the DASH-8 I heard about last year.
When you're dealing with a Caribbean island and such a small fleet, you simply cannot afford to have jackasses running into your airplanes every couple of weeks. The sooner BWIA and the officials at POS realize this, the sooner the T&T aviation industry can get back on track. However, I suspect the problem exists way beyond the airport. The nation, as a whole, need to get it's act together.

Sounds like sabotage to me. 4 aircraft strikes in one month for such a relatively small airport sounds a little suspicous to me. I dont car if it is an every day occurance in the USA.

Why it is they dont stop hitting the blasted planes.

Tasha to me it sounds like sabotage but I do not know why.

Here is a long shot  Acting devilish  Acting devilish  Acting devilish  Acting devilish some one must hhave worked some obeah on the drivers or something. 2) this is a way of getting out of the lease for TJN so they can get another A340 with better cabin ammenities LOL how ridiculous would that be !!!!!

Anyway this is really sad hey does any one know if the 727 being leased by BWIA is going to be restricted to a particular route???

Sabotage or just plain incompetence. They probably hire cheap people who can't drive or read, and most certainly Servisair doesn't spend a dollar training their employees there!

I don't think its sabotage. theres just a bunch of incompetent workers driving those trucks.

Is this the same Servisair as in the UK?

If so then nothing surprises me!

Anyone remember the incident at MAN when a driver rammed into the Israeli AF B707, with the sleeping Israeli PM onboard? He was lucky he wasn't shot!

I...I'm totally shocked!  Wow!

I don't like jumping to conclusions, but this is too ridiculous. Something is seriously wrong for this to happen in such a short space of time. I have a few questions:

1. How is the workforce of BWIA these days in terms of company morale?
2. Do the workers of the ground handling company at POS take their job seriously?
3. Is POS still labeled a Category 2 by the ICAO? If so, this will seriously hamper it's chances of regaining Category 1 status.

I'd like to rule out sabotage targeting BWIA since I understand that it's not only BWIA airplanes involved. I am deeply saddened not only because it's an A340 (causing the airline to scramble for another replacement aircraft), but also because it's the full-colored scheme aircraft. How long will this one be out?

Hopefully the damage is minor and the driver of the truck is beaten with a wet noodle!!!

Tasha that is one thing that they dont do. The 737 that was hit received extensive damage. BWIA really cant afford this now. Seeing that it is in summer a busy season for them. Like now you have Crop Over in Barbados which would lead to most flights to Barbados being full.

Reports indicate that the damaged 737 is now back in the skies. That should ease the sqeeze a bit somewhat coming into the summer season.

"Reports indicate that the damaged 737 is now back in the skies."

Ironically, the incident with 9Y-TJN occurred on the very day that engine tests were being conducted on 9Y-GEO. It's becoming like a revolving door with those guys. One goes out; One comes in... Bloody amazing.

BWIA is still CAT2. With stuff like this happening, I don't see them regaining CAT1 status any time soon.

Any word on how long the A340 might be out of service, and what aircraft will they use to replace it for the time being? Perhaps an Air Luxor L1011?

I was right US$ 1.2 to fix the airbus and it could be out of service for a month right in the middle of the summer season.

Speaking of MAN I think I recall a Crossair pilot getting fatally run over by another eejit.

If I were BW, I'd sue ServisAir. Make them responsible for every dime that BW loses as a result of this negligence. It doesn't matter that it was individuals who did it. The aircraft are out of service, and it's clearly ServisAir's fault.

ServisAir should pay for any damage to the aircraft and any lost revenue as a result out-of-service aircraft.
Those who fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it in summer school.

After doing a bit of research, I found out ServisAir is a huge international ground handling company, with offices worldwide, including operations in the United States. I believe it'll be highly likely that ServisAir will pay for the damages.

I wonder what aircraft and airline BWIA will look to for temporary leasing for their operations:

Maybe even Aer Lingus (same color  Laugh out loud, and BWIA flies to Dublin anyway)

Or how about United Airlines? BWIA does have a code-share partnership with them in the United States, and there are lots of UAL 777's and 747's available in the desert for use.

What say you?

They nay we just have to wait and see.

The would not go back to the L1011 as the leasing agreement was ended due to peristant customer omcpaints about the cleanlyness of the Euro Atlantic interior. There was an article about it in the guardian.

BWIA does not fly directly to dublin. Passengers from Dublin connect via BMI on the Manchester flight.

BTW i read on http://www.caribbeanalpa.com/discussion/ that BWIA has gotten a new uniform can anyone tell me if this is true??
