The airport used would be Newark. Although the current plans are to continue flying the 772ER, there is talk in this forum about them using the 744s.

It's not a rumor. That is THE plan. MH is still working on a November date, subject to all the necessary approvals. Aircraft type will be 772ER, not 744 although it was considered. The MH Cultural Group are rehearsing for the occasion of the inaugural flight. Will be KUL-ARN-EWR and will replace the existing KUL-DXB-EWR.

Any chance the B777 was used because MH wants to fly more frequently to EWR?

Joule: Do you know what other approvals do MH need?

Dunno specifically...there are a lot of things to do when setting up a line station. Heard also MH is looking at BA for aircraft ground support. Hopefully the service can start sooner rather than later.

Some further news about MHs new route can be found on a Swedish News Portal, www.flygtorget.se (no English).

Summary
A spokesman from LFV (The Swedish CAA) says a delegation from MH now
is in Stockholm for final talks. IF starting, MH will start service 31st of Oct. One maindetail to solve is the security questions and handling for the US, all passport registrations

Regarding to traffic regulations between EU and USA, a non-American/ European airline may not accept passengers between Europe and USA.

The potential for the STO-KUL sector is approx. 60.000 passengers a year.
MH City office in Stockholm is already on their way to move to a more central downtown location.

Thanks for the update. Although I think Flygtorget is partly incorrect when it comes to MH picking up passengers from ARN to EWR; The EU-USA PROPOSED bilateral may have this restriction, but I think both Malaysia and Sweden have Open Skies with the US so I don't see a problem for MH to have full traffic rights even between ARN and EWR.

BA doesn't do any ground support at ARN; it's all done by Arlanda Handling, checking in and ramp and probably also line maintenence too.

Hi Charles! Wasn't aware that JA732J was delivered already; is due sometime this month.

Birka340: Thanks for the info! Things have changed a lot since I last worked at ARN in 1991...I just assumed Arlanda Handling still handled BA...my mistake.
