Very Interesting Find In 'Speednews' Database!

Fri Jul 09, 2004 8:10 am

I was looking through 'SpeedNews,' an online data base for commercial aircraft available for sale/lease, and also a place for professionals to post ads for aircraft need for purchase/dry- or wet-lease/etc. and I found this ad:

Posted: June 28, 2004
Commercial Aircraft Wanted: Ten (10)747/400's (1990 - 1997 vintage) wanted by Las Vegas based "121" domestic airline startup, now in the certification process. Must be suitable for high density seating. FAMILY AIRLINES INCORPORATED
Barry Michaels
Tel: 702 214-4232
Fax: 702 548-5608
familyairlines@yahoo.com

That sounds very ambitious. Has anyone else heard of this "proposed" startup. Here's the link for anyone interested. Scroll down the page a little bit and you'll see it.

I don't think everything posted in the "wanted" section is genuine.

Family Airlines was a proposed startup in the mid-1990s, using some very elderly ex-Pan Am 747-100s. It never got off the ground, although they did get as far as the first aircraft being painted.

This one looks like it could be the same people behind it again judging by their website, it even uses 10 year old photos of the above aircraft.
Their concept? - low fares, using 747-400s on domestic routes within the USA, don't see this attempt getting much further than the first!

Their website;
Family Airlines
Have a look, see what you think...

This same concept and by the same people was attempted several (8?) years ago. It was a failure. They never got off the ground. I do recall that they did get one 747 painted in Family Airlines Colors.

I don't think the concept is much more viable this time around either. But I wish them luck...

Here is some interesting reading:

http://www.sec.gov/litigation/litreleases/lr14963.txt

SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION

LITIGATION RELEASE NO. 14963, June 24, 1996

SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION V. MYRON BARRY MICHAELS AND
HOLLY S. MICHAELS

Civil Action No. CV 95-2499 LGB (BQRx)

The Securities and Exchange Commission ("Commission")
announced that the United States District Court for the Central
District of California ordered a permanent injunction,
disgorgement of $363,306.44 and civil penalties against Myron
Barry Michaels (aka Barry Michaels) and Holly S. Michaels on June
19, 1996. The order issued by Judge Lourdes G. Baird found that
the husband and wife couple, residents in Las Vegas, Nevada,
participated in the fraudulent offering of $5 million of
unregistered stock of a discount start-up airline, Family
Airlines, Inc. ("Family") in 1992 and 1993, before they were
ousted from the airline by a group of Family investors.

SegmentKing, that is VERY interesting stuff you got there. Then what in the world (or how in the world) is he able to attempt this again, or would this lead you to believe it's an internet hoax? I'm definately confused but a little bit intrigued now.

It's well known that Barry Michaels is basically a crook who tried to swindle investors with his last airline project. I'm surprised SpeedNews is even carrying his information. Steer clear.
