Malaysia Airlines Planned Purchases?

Fri Jul 09, 2004 3:59 pm

Anyone know if MAS is going to plan any new aircraft purchases? 7E7 or something at farmborough.

Have you noticed that MAS was one of the launch customers for the 777-300 along with cathay and SQ but they never received a single airframe, why is this?

Is there any chance that MAS will order from airbus? the A346 or A345, but they would look sweet in MAS livery, as seen in this photo,

Any further news on MAS updated IFE?

thanks

MAS is one of many airlines looking into the 7E7, but its early days yet.

Yes, MAS did order the 773 (initially ordered 11 772ER and 4 773) but converted the 773 order for an eventual 6 772ERs. Fleet commonality is one factor.

MAS are currently concentrating on replacing the F50s (and 734s).

Don't discount MAS from acquiring more Airbuses, especially the A345. It could fit into the network if MAS decide to go ultra long haul. But still early days too. More A330s may join the fleet before year-end as part of the on-going route expansion.

IFE upgrade will coincide with First and Business class reconfiguration, starting with the 772ERs from November. The new First Class seats will look something like the Swiss ones. Business seats will be similar to those on other leading airlines (flat and slant). The 772ERs will be 2-class and 744 will maintain 3-class.

A380 engine selection will be announced soon.

Where would Mas fly the A345 to ? KUL-LAX to compete with singapore?

Why did mas change their order to the 772er, fleet commonality is indeed one thing, but wouldnt the B773 have fit their route structure somewhat better in certain areas? At least they would have been put into better use that the SQ 777's flying 45 minute flights Kul-Sin Sin-Kul

Yup the FC seats will look something like that (that's because they are from the same seat manufacturer). Of course the colors would be different.

As for the A345, Airbus of course still has hopes that MAS will acquire the aircraft someday (of course they also hope to clinch the A320 deal with MAS and AirAsia too). But like I said, still early days.

The 773 issue has been discussed before (some years back) so I won't go into it again. Old news.
