DL In SEA

Sun Jul 11, 2004 3:26 am

I hear that DL has moved to the A concourse in SEA.... along with its Crown Room...

What prompted that move... and how many gates did DL wind up with..??

Looking at a DL schedule I noticed that DL is using a Skywest RJ into SEA... Is DL going to start using more RJs there...???

And does DL do any ground handling for any other carriers in SEA..???

Yes they moved to A Councourse.

Airport Master Plan I believe. Gates A11, A12, A13, A14

Not really just placing the right planes at the right time.

China Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

DL ground handles China Airlines, Hawaiian, and Sun Country.

American is also on Concourse A (along with Frontier and ATA) and their relocation provided the ability for AS to completely occupy Concourse C along their gates on D. Delta was in Concourse B, so their gates there are now vacant.

I think the Port was counting on Southwest taking some, but they've actually cut back service in SEA. Plus, I think the high landing fees and terminal rents have really caused WN to reconsider their future operations at SEA.

Incidentally, jetBlue moved from Councourse B (an HP gate) to the North Satellite terminal to be ramp handled by UA there.

HA did move to A with DL, DL does their groundhandling, as was mentioned by seajets. CO will likely not move, as there is no reason to leave B.

I think the high landing fees and terminal rents have really caused WN to reconsider their future operations at SEA.

Highly unlikely that WN would leave SEA, but they did play hardball with the port and refused to sign a long time lease on gate space for a while. They went month to month to prove a point that they thought the port was asking far to much for gate space. I could speculate that they might reduce service more, or increase, but I don't think they would completely leave.

Looking at a DL schedule I noticed that DL is using a Skywest RJ into SEA

I believe that is fairly recent, and is a once a day flight to SLC sometime in the early afternoon? Someone else might have better information than I do though.

I just read an article recently stating that the airlines are very unhappy with the rising cost of operating out of Sea/Tac. Once the new runway come online and the cost increase even more, look for more airlines beside Southwest to start triming even more service out of Seattle .

Expensive airport for an expensive city...... I think there is too much money in SEA for WN to leave....

I heard talk about service out of Payne Field once... but don't know how far that went

I really can't foresee Southwest pulling out of Sea/Tac. But as the price continues to rise they will definitely continue to decrease service there...If i'm not mistaken Seattle will be Southwest most expensive airport it operates from once the new runway comes online..If nothing else the SEA-GEG flights will be pulled.....

About the time the increased costs made the news, a lot of talk resurfaced about Paine Field. Demographics would make Paine an ideal alternative but, not surprisingly, there will be fierce opposition from the neighbors. Many communities would love to have a very suitable airport practically ready to go, right in the middle of a rapidly-growing suburban area.

There were talks about PAE/BFI opening for pax service, but that got shot down immediately by SEA. SEA has specifically stated that it did not want competition with other Puget Sound area airports whatsoever. To this day, this is still true and SEA still emphasizes that.
