Dude, are you serious? LHR is the world's busiest airport in regards to int'l flights. Just kick back and enjoy the show. I would give about anything to be in your shoes!!!

Spotting planes is the best thing you can do at LHR. Hatton Cross is a good spot for 27L arrivals/take-offs. The fence near the grassy area near the BA east base area is good for 09L/27R is an ideal place for landings. To get to Hatton Cross take the Piccadilly line eastbound from T3 to Hatton Cross station. Come out of the station and turn left onto the bus stand, from here walk over the footbridge, cross the road and keep walking. To your left will usually be BA planes parked there, keep walking until you reach the roundabout, go straigh past the roundabout until you reach the fenced off grassy area. This spot is only good if 09L is used for landings. Otherwise turn right when you come out of the station and walk down the perimetre road for a few hundred yards until you reach a small grassy field. This is the end of Myrtle avenue, good for both landings and take-offs from 27L.

Go and visit the 'BAA Heathrow Visitors Centre' on Bath Road. This can be reached by means of several bus routes from the Central Bus Station. Take either the 105, 111, 140 or 285. The buses stop just a few metres away and you will need to cross the road.

The best feature is the large glazed area towards the rear (especially on the first floor). It has views over one of the runways and a few displays. An architectural model of Terminal 5 is also present, as well as half a Boeing 777 cockpit and various other displays. There are toilets, a cafe and a shop on the first floor too and a relatively good display of various scale aircraft models on the ground floor (in addition to the large ones hanging from the celling!).

It isn't fantastic purely to see aircraft up close (blame BAA policy for that), but it is nonetheless well worth a visit. Entry is free.
A bus is a vehicle that runs twice as fast when you are after it as when you are in it.
